Christine says: "My 19-month-old will be 2 years and 2 months old when my next baby is born. I am 12 weeks pregnant and was wondering if I should start her potty training now so that she will be done by the time the baby comes Also, should I try switching her to a toddler bed somewhere in this mix? Not all at the same time, but some time before the baby comes?"

Have you potty trained a toddler or made the switch to the big bed to make way for a new baby? How did you make it all work? Share your advice (or just commiserate) with Christine and other parents on the forum or leave a comment.

  • Pottery Barn Kids Drop-Side Cribs Recalled
    20 Jul 2010 at 11:38am
Photo: CPSC Suffice it to say, if you have a drop-side crib, it's probably going to make it on the recall list eventually. This week, they're from Pottery Barn Kids. This company is recalling all its drop-side cribs no matter what the model number (see images of all the cribs involved at their website). This comes after receiving 36 reports malfunctioning sides that resulted in seven injuries. Stop using the crib and contact Pottery Barn Kids at 877-804-3847 to get a free kit that will immobilize the drop side.

And, if you are still using a drop-side crib that hasn't been recalled and the problems remedied, I urge you to contact your crib manufacturer and press them to issue a repair kit sooner rather than later. If you've had any of the common problems with the drop-side and haven't reported it, please get in touch with the Consumer Product Safety Commission so that they will be able to work with your crib manufacturer and get the problem fixed. It really could prevent injuries and save lives.

  • Tots in Mind Play Yard Tents Recalled
    20 Jul 2010 at 11:20am
Photo: CPSC The Cozy Indoor Outdoor Portable Playard Tents Plus Cabana Kits from Tots in Mind are being recalled after the death of a 2-year-old boy. He was able to remove the plastic clips that secured the tent to the play yard so nylon ties were used to secure it instead. The child was found entrapped between the frame of the play yard and the metal rod of the tent. There have been other reports of children who were able to remove the clips and poke their necks out, but thankfully, without injury.

These tents were sold at Amazon.com, Walmart and other retailers going back as far as 2005. Tots in Mind is offering replacement clips which you can get by calling the company at 800-626-0339 or by filling out the form on their website.
