Editorial Reviews:

From Amazon.com
They reached their namesake year, but unlike Arthur C. Clarke's 2001: A Space Odyssey or George Orwell's 1984, the group 2002 never offered great expectations. Across an Ocean of Dreams sounds pretty much like their last several albums, which means lots of women's choirs oohing and aahing in celestial bliss, Enya-esque pizzicato strings, and meandering melodies. 2002 aspires to a quiet classical grandeur, but at a sluggish pace that makes Yanni sound as if he's on an adrenaline high. Wrapping you in faux-velvet gauze, they muffle the very air coming from your speakers. Late in the album, "Lady of the Moon" almost cuts through with a plaintive mix of acoustic and electric guitars, a bit of Renaissance recorder, and a breathy woman's chorus. But by then, you've been smothered to death. --John Diliberto

5 out of 5 stars Great Massage Therapy Music   June 10, 2004
I am a massage therapist and discard many cds before I choose one to use for my clients. This is one I have added to my personal and professional collections. This is definetly a keeper!

Although I love Enya, I will not use it in the therapy room. Voices, drum beats and fast sections of music do not allow total relaxation. The mind follows popular/familiar musical remakes...so all those are also eliminated.

4 out of 5 stars A Guaranteed Stress-Buster   October 11, 2003
Timothy Kearney (Hull, MA United States)
ACROSS AN OCEAN OF DREAMS is the follow up to 2002's critically acclaimed RIVER OF STARS. 2002 is an Irish duo that creates a sound that seems to take the best of Enya, Windham Hill, and Narada and combine them into a unique blend that creates a peaceful, soothing sound. 2002 envisions its music to flow like a symphony and recommends listening to an entire CD rather than skipping around for excerpts. Since one pieces flows into the other rather fluidly, it is easy to understand why this is the recommendation.

Though the disk has many moving and beautiful moments, I will have to admit when I first listened to it I was a bit disappointed. It seems to be missing something as compared with RIVER OF STARS, which is hands down the best 2002 disk, but I have grown to enjoy it very much. I can often put it on in the car while sitting in traffic, and be transported someplace else, but don't worry of you're on the road with me, it's not so intoxicating that it takes away concentration, so it really is wonderful background music.

4 out of 5 stars Thanks for the Introduction To Mehdi >>>   October 9, 2003
A. Kennedy (Nebraska)
I've always enjoyed 2002 and this album is no exception, but while reading some of the customer recommendations posted on this page I discovered an artist by the name of Mehdi (pronounced meddie). After some investigation I found his site (SoothingMusic.Com) and listened to the samples...I also downloaded some of the free MP3 downloads that are available on Amazon.com.
I was instantly blown away by the quality of this music and so I purchased "Instrumental Evolution Volume 6" (The most relaxing of the Mehdi series) and now that I have listened to this CD several times I really must say that although I'm still a 2002 fan I find Mehdi to be a tad more interesting. I have them both in my multi-disc CD player and love the way they compliment each other. I highly recommend that you give this artist a try or atleast just go listen to the samples, I have a feeling you'll be glad you did.

4 out of 5 stars Very Nice, But Not 2002's Best   September 3, 2003
C. Byers (Wyckoff, NJ United States)
My first exposure to 2002 was about six months ago, when I first heard 2002's "Chrysalis". Incredibly relaxing, ethereal, full of angelic choirs and tones, sans a "beat". One of my favorites. "Ocean" is a very enjoyable album, but the comparisons to Enya are unavoidable. I like Enya a lot, but it doesn't take me to the same deep place as "Chrysalis" or any of Liquid Mind's work. "Ocean" features the plucked violin, swelling strings and stirring piano elements of Enya, to the extent that you would think Enya had a new album out if you didn't know better.

Again, I like Enya, and this is every bit as good as anything she has done (except for a few of the tunes on "Shepherd Moons"). It is relaxing, but it is not consciousness-shifting. Give "Chrysalis" a try, as well as anything by Liquid Mind, or Raphael's "Angels of the Deep."

4 out of 5 stars relaxing music ....   June 19, 2003
nice CD. perfect for falling off to sleep after a difficult day to help the mind unwind and not "unravel." This is definitely 2002's strength.
I also purchased the new CD by Kevin Kern, The Winding Path. The hauntingly beautiful flute playing by Pamela Copus of 2002 is featured on a number of the tracks on The Winding Path. What a great collaborative effort! Simply beautiful! I highly recommend that you check both of them out!
