Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Medela Swing has 2-Phase Expression which imitates the baby?s natural sucking rhythm and is therefore comfortable and efficient. The innovative technology is based on state-of-the-art research and brings the breastfeeding mother all-round comfort and convenience. Babies change the way they suckle at a mother?s breast during breastfeeding. Initially, they suck rapidly to stimulate the milk ejection reflex (MER) and induce milk ?let-down?. This phase is referred to as ?Stimulation?. Once the milk starts flowing, they settle into a more relaxed sucking speed. This phase is called ?Expression?.

5 out of 5 stars Has been a great investment   October 2, 2008
Ginnymac (Norfolk, UK)
Until recently I had been using a manual pump which I found to be a bit hit and miss- sometimes I could express fine with it, other times it didn't work for me. I have found this electric pump to be really good, it works for me every time, is pretty quiet and whats more no more aching hand from the manual pumping- hurrah! I've also been impressed at the speed at which this works, I can express the amount that I need in around 15 mins which means I'm free to carry on with my day. Its really easy to keep clean and sterilised too- with the manual pump I had there were lots of fiddly bits to wash but this one is pretty straightforward. Wish I had purchased one of these sooner...

5 out of 5 stars Excellent efficient breast pump   October 1, 2008
J. Creer (North Wales)
I have been using the pump for around 10 weeks now, sometimes three times a day, and it hasn't let me down yet. It is pricey, but I believe worth the money. The upsides for me are that I can express around 4 ozs in about 20 mins, and all of the plastic parts do not contain Bisphenol-A. I also like the fact that I can control the degree of suck. Oh, and you can use it with batteries too.

Downside, you do feel a bit like a cow in a milking parlour and I'm told the noise it makes is almost identical!

One other thing, if you do have any problems at all with the pump the people at Medela customer services are extremely helpful and professional.

5 out of 5 stars Well worth the money!   September 2, 2008
Mrs. H. Cumiskey (Oxfordshire)
I bought this pump when i was pregnant just in case! Im so glad i did as i have really struggled with breastfeeding and because the pump is so efficient and quick it means i can express easily and my baby still gets breastmilk but from a bottle! I have also used a few of Medela's other products and they all fantastic!

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good for its size   June 8, 2008

I originally rented the Medela Symphony, the heavy duty one from the hospital. It was excellent in so many ways, except for the price. I mostly breastfeed, but like to have the option, so I decided to go for this one. Overall, it is a great little pump. It takes a while to pump and isn't as powerful as the Symphony, but that's to be expected. I did try the battery option and it goes through them very fast. This is really best if you are out and about, away from an electrical outlet. The only thing I just cannot understand about this pump is the little tube that goes into the bottle is triangular while the bottle insert is circular. This is minor, but a design flaw. The tube does fall out from time to time, which is annoying more than anything. Overall I am happy with this, but if I planned on pumping more often or exclusively I would spend the money on the Symphony because it is really great.

5 out of 5 stars Medela Swing Breast Pump   April 18, 2008

I live in the US part of the year and in Scotland the other part. I didn't bring my Medela Pump in Style over with me as it was too bulky. I saw this model and was worried it wouldn't be as powerful, but I was wrong. This model was better than the Avent breastpump (a friend bought for me) and I'm so glad I paid the extra money for it!
