5 out of 5 stars no hassle baby food   September 22, 2008

Like many parents, I want to give my little girl a good start and offer her home cooked fresh food, rather than commercially prepared baby food. I already have a food processor, steamer etc, but using them would mean an awful lot of washing up to do every day, so when I saw the reviews of this steamer/blender I decided to stump up the 65 and try it out.

It is quite compact but was still bigger than I expected, about a third smaller than my usual moulinex processor. The parts feel like they are quite good quality, although when brand new it was hard work putting the bowl in the right place as the lock was stiff. It's much better now I've used it to cook with.

It is really easy to use, just chop up the food, put it in the steam basket, fill the unit on the side with water and switch it on. It steams even hard veg like carrots and squash perfectly and purees them to the consistency you want. The bowl can fit a couple of big carrots at once. My baby loves the food!

I really recommend this because it does everything all in one unit, it even defrosts and reheats. The best thing is that it is also easy to clean. I am using this in conjunction with Annabel Karmel's complete baby and toddler meal planner and I now have loads of ideas for nutritious meals. Although it is expensive, it is convenient and quite fun to use! I feel it is worth the money.

i bought this blender after reading great reviews. anyway it was expensive but bought it anyway. It has a very small bowl compared to most blenders and i have ended up cooking in a saucepan and transferring the contents to the blender a little at a time because the blender cannot hold very much. i made soup in it the other day and the blender sprayed the contents all over me. I ended up having to put cling film all round the lid so that the rest of the soup wouldnt come out. do yourself a favour and buy an ordinary blender and cook your stuff in a saucepanmat a fraction of the cost of this machine

The shocking thing about being a new parent is that you never knew the stress that would come from trying to make the right decisions. Am I buying the right gizmo, will it harm my child, will this encourage health, am I creating more hassle for myself - WILL IT COST ME TIME!!!!!

The regular dilemmas hit us all and following extensive research on the right food mixer / baby food making device we settled on this funny looking green thing (which coincidentally matches nothing in most kitchens)!!
Anxiety offloaded our immediate surprise came in the size of this little gizmo. It is small and perfectly formed with a footprint that is the size of a 2 slot toaster -cute too.
The instructions are clear and we immediately started to play with foodstuffs to see what would come out and clearly the brains were in gear when designing this little fella.

Steaming is the way forward for our wee bearns simply as all the nutrients stay in the mush that we feed them -a good thing. This little unit knows exactly when to turn itself off ensuring that it does exactly that and as a result is very simple to use -and stress free. I would put this as extremely highly recommended the only caveat to that being that I cannot attest to its longevity though the second hand market seems to be doing OK on various online Marketplace sites. However if you, Like us did not want to take the risk on 2nd hand and thought that 70 quid was a big ask let me rest your weary head right now and state categorically that this decision will demonstrate itself to be a very sound one -and ultimately good for the little one(s). The stuff that comes out is home made mush rather than mush from a jar and I am very pleased to have found a viable alternative....

I was given this as a gift, and thought it was initially going to be a waste of money, never used, and just left sitting taking up very little space in my kitchen. How wrong I was? I use it nearly every day. It is brilliant, quick, neat and small, safe and hygienic. Everything is steamed and pureed in the same container so you lose no nutrients. And my 5 year old loves using it to make his baby sister's food with me.
Brilliant - I don't know how I managed with out it for so long!

I bought the Babycook after some hesitation due to the price tag - after all, I do own saucepans and a cooker which could do the job. However, I'm so glad I did because I can't emphasise how clean, tidy, efficient and hassle free this little gadget makes the food preperation. And it's easy to clean and store too! Five stars *****
