Healing Wise: The Wise Woman Herbal October 8, 2007 Dr. Tami Brady (Calgary, Canada) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Wise Woman Herbal: Healing Wise looks at health and healing from a completely different perspective than any other resource I've ever consulted. Instead of looking at illness as something needing medication (as in western scientific medicine) or as the result of some sort of bodily imbalance (as in traditional eastern medicine), this book looks at illness as an opportunity. At first, I have to admit that this concept sounded really strange to me. What sort of opportunity is suffering from Chronic Fatigue or having to deal with the symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis? However, as I continued through the thorough and easy to understand explanations of the wise woman tradition, I began to understand more about the principles behind optimum nourishment. Basically, this concept requires that we learn to take care of, accept, learn from and love ourselves at every point in our life process. To do so, brings about change and further opportunities to nourish our being. Thus, if we have an illness in the traditional sense, then we need to take the opportunity to learn about ourselves and fully nurture our being before we can ever hope to release the seemingly negatives aspects of the situation. Wise Woman Herbal: Healing Wise has me intrigued with the wise woman tradition. I find the concept of a spiral healing pattern (as opposed to the linear pattern of western medicine and the circular pattern of traditional eastern medicine) fascinating. I also like that this book gave me a distinctly different way to think about my health. I am extremely eager to learn more about this tradition.
wonderful, wise and a little bit weird November 6, 2005 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
This is one of those books that I would not be without. Yes it is limited in the amount of herbs that Susun talks about but the the choice of herbs cover a lot of womens basic nutritional and medicinal herbal needs and oh boy! the depth of research and info is second to none. It took me a while to get used to the chapters dealing with the "voices" of the herbs but I'm glad I persevered because there is valuable knowledge to be gleaned from them. What can I say except it was a good read, I learned a lot and I bought another of Susun Weeds books on the strength of this one. Read it then go for a walk and look down. Weeds will never be the same.

I just read this book. It took me days to read it not because the book is boring or I am a slow reader but becuase Susun Weed made me want to go out into my garden and try out all those weeds I already have growing here. Her book talkes to both mind and spirit in an enchanting way. If you are looking for a book of recepies, hard facts and fun, get this one!
A very respectful approach to herbs and healing April 9, 1999 8 out of 16 found this review helpful

Healing Wise is in my top five herbal texts... November 3, 1998 13 out of 20 found this review helpful
Written simply and effectively, Healing Wise is one of the very best herbal texts I have come across. Weed's emphasis on a small number of herbs having the ability to do a great many things is important--it is a "back to basics" approach, one that I feel is essential in this day of "more, better, best". Though I utilize many other herbals, Healing Wise is the book I usually grab first. Thank you Ms. Weed for opening my eyes (and heart) a little wider to the world around me, I am grateful.
