 An essential Read for anyone interested in Shamanism August 9, 2008

An authentic and challenging book where Eliot Cowan, a renowned Shamanic Teacher, describes his journey with great insights and observations on how we live and what the results are for us. I agree with other reviews that it can be life-changing, though those not familiar with the Shamanic path may find his reports of journies to other realities hard to understand. He describes his unique blend of the Chinese five elements with the Shamnisitic spirituality of the Huichol people with a good dose of trickster humour. Though he does issue a small caveat at the end that treatments may take a long time to work, my only critcism is that this may be lost in the enthusiasm of his reposrts of succesful healings which may therefore be setting expectations too high. I would recommend this book as an essential read for anyone seriously interested in Shamanism. Few people write about the subject with such energy, insight and balance.

I bought this book as I was looking for information about the essence of plants. It was not at all what I was expecting. It changed my life. Once opened I could not put it down. Every page was awe inspiring and a personal journey. This book is an inspiration for any one who is interested in the spirit and reminds us that nature has many mysteries that cannot be unlocked by science. It also reminds us that we are all one heart, beating the eternal rythm. TOTALLY AMAZING READ. Everyone would benifit from having a copy of this book.

Having read Eliot's book and been fortunate enough to have had plant spirit medicine treatment from Eliot and his students, I can testify to the power and efficacy of plant spirit medicine as well as the integrity of the author himself. This book will open your eyes to a new world of plants and their spirits. It will make you see things in a completely different way. Eliot talks about his own path to becoming a shaman and plant spirit medicine healer as well as other healers and their paths which all makes for fascinating reading. If you are interested in becoming a plant spirit medicine healer or just interested in learning about the real nature of plants this is the place to start. Remember though that this is only the beginning...nothing will seem the same again after reading this book.

This book truely shows the reader how to understand the healing aspects of plants, not only in a herbology sence, but deeper into the spirit presence of the plant being.Thanks Eliot, for a fantastic book
