A little hard to swallow March 16, 2007 A Reader (Glasgow) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book was very nicely presented but the material was quite hard to take seriously. Some of the exercises and theories proposed in the book were downright "new age" metaphysical stuff. I guess if you're into spirits, auras, fairies and goblins, then this book is a real treat. I was kind of hoping for something more useful.
Pass the chi June 17, 2005 Madge (Chelmsford) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I found it absurd to think that the author expects the reader to take him seriously. His 'pass the chi' around your body exercises were hilarious. Try again, fella. Try again.
Fantastic for all your gardening needs May 10, 2005 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
I found this book to be the definitive guide on the upkeep of the modern English garden. Paul Brecher is an extradorinary botanist in a world of ordinary gardeners, and has a talent for bestowing upon even the most banal and twisted little weed an inner beauty that shines through its slimey green exterior. The chapter on lily formation was a revelation that any amateur gardener will relish. Strangely, the appendix to the book features an interesting but unrelated study on Qi Gong, an ancient system of Chinese meditation, which does not, however, detract from the main thrust of the work. A horticularal masterpiece!
This is what you're looking for! November 20, 2004 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
The problem with trying to find a good book on a subject that is specialist to say the least is that without reading a wide variety of books on the subject and many hours of practice you don't know if you're reading the most important thing you have read to date or something your budgie should be hovering over! Luckily for you there are useful formats such as amazon's reviews and opinionated individuals such as myself who love to tell it like it is. THIS BOOK CONTAINS INFORMATION THAT YOU COULD SPEND YOUR WHOLE LIFE SEARCHING FOR. The authors obvious talent for making the complex understandable are just the ticket for a subject like this. Do not be fooled by the fact you can buy this information so easily, the practice of these techniques will (in time, with patience) manifest health and energy that you could never put a price on. If you had spent years wandering far off hilltops to aquire this knowledge you would think it was all worthwhile, i cannot believe that it is so cheap! (Yes, i said cheap, not even reasonably priced!) So many books on this subject just further complicate it with poor explanations, this time however i feel that the publishers could not have picked a more skilled teacher and communicator to make this complex topic digestable for us all. Everyone should have a copy of this little gem, i cannot imagine a type of person who would not benefit from these techniques!
Qigong December 15, 2002 Mr. Robert Stevens 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
This was both an excellent and affordable book on the 'internal arts' approach to Qigong. Those who study or are interested in 'standing pole' and / or Yi quan exercises will benefit greatly from this book. Well presented and plenty of colour photographs for the student to follow clearly.
