Perfectly named... An excellent guide to sporting fitness January 25, 2001 Aladar Kogler has achieved great results on the world stage by applying his techniques to the athletes in the Czech and US Olympic teams. His exercises are drawn from traditional Indian yoga techniques, but are tailored towards competitive exersize (safe for the knees etc). He makes a concious effort to stop short of complex breathing techniques or meditation, instead keeping the practices simple and the mental affirmations goal oriented. Ultimately the title of the book is exactly what the text achieves (it is well illustrated too.) I actually find some of it quite difficult to achieve, and he makes relatively few provisions for people who are in that position, but sticking with it is very rewarding. I feel much better for having been exposed to his philosophy.
Just what you need November 18, 1998 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Having had Aladar as a fencing coach, I can say that he definitely knows what he's talking about. In fencing, one's muscles tend to develop unevenly (the front arm and leg work harder than the others) and yoga helps even them out and keep you balanced. It is also a good practice to come down from the athletic high that you can get after competition. The mindful practice of these exercises keeps you balanced as an athlete, as well as a person.
