Better than the rest of them..... July 1, 2006 petzneo (United Kingdom) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I think this was the best of the four books, so she definetely keep the best for last! This book seems to captivated the reader more than the 2nd and 3rd books did. Briar's deep love for Rosethorn, give the "ahhh" factor and helps you, in a way, relate to Briar. All in all, another excellent book from Tamora Pierce.
fantastic book! August 7, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book is Brilliant!! I think that it is the best one of the series as Briar does the most extraordinary thing rather than lose his teacher.I also like the way in which they have "saved the day" before the most impotant event happens. You should read all of Tamora Pierce's book, they are all amazing!!!
A disappointing end to the series May 2, 2003 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a change from the other books - this time, a plague has come - and it seems nobody really has evil intent in making it. In the other books, the children have used their magic cleverly to escape danger. Here, Briar does something far more miraculous than the other ones did (what could you expect? It's the last book!) but it doesn't really have much to do with his powers. This retracts from the mythology 'feel' of the other books. HOWEVER!IF YOU BEGAN READING THIS SERIES (BOOKS 2 AND 3 COUNT, 1 DOESN'T) YOU MUST FINISH IT! I recommend using a library.
excellent finale June 16, 2002 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book is really great. It is mainly about Briar and his teacher Rosethorn as they battle to fid the cure to a mysterios disease that has hit the city of Summersea. The magic they have cannot cure this disease as it has never been heard of before. It may even make you have to work with your worst enemies. If they do not act fast then the disease will kill the whole population, even your friends as Briar soon finds out... Read this book, the whole series and all of TPs books You will not be disappointed.
Better than the previous books, though not excellent. January 4, 2001 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
For fans of Tamora Pierce this book is a satisfying end to the 'Circle of Magic' sequence and it is certainly the best of Circle books. However it is not the best book to read if you are new to either TP or the Circle (it is definitely not her best book and it relies on the reader having read the previous books). The story centres around Briar - a young mage and his fight against the plague that is decimating his home, and a more personal fight to save the person he loves most. Although Briar is the main character it features the other characters who appeared earlier in the sequence. It is a pleasant enough book to read, but not a classic.
