5 out of 5 stars Common sense   January 7, 2009
Ms. Vc Turner (UK, Manchester)

After watching the programme on tv i thought a lot of what he said made sense about not going hungry but not eating too much you feel sick getting back in tune with your body and recognising the signs between actual hunger and learnt behaviour. A lot of what he says in common sense but what makes me laugh is after reading all the reviews with 1 star they all say the same thing, "its common sense", "there is no real diet", "it doesnt work", etc
if it is such common sense why did they all buy the book i think many of the people who complained about this product are angry they are not instantly transformed as Mr Mckenna and many health books etc point out nothihng will happen overnight! People need to change their way of thinking in order to change their lives and this is what Paul is trying to say. You will as well be amazed at the number of people who do not know to drink water when they feel hungry as they may as well be thirsty! i think most of the 1 star reviews are written with people with a bad taste in their mouths as they did not see the weight drop off it may be worth them thinking there maybe many other issues making them overweight (why else would they buy the book!)

5 out of 5 stars It does work   December 15, 2008

I went to Paul Mckenna's weightloss seminar last year and lost over a stone within four weeks and I have still kept it off.
His method really does work

4 out of 5 stars it worked for me!   November 25, 2008

all i can say is that this book did a good job. i don't think i lost weight but i feel great now because the hypnosis really helped me. My clothes are becoming loose so maybe i am losing inches through exercise. i admit i used to be a couch potato but now i exercise for an hour at least 3 times a week and also the hypnosis helped me in my chocolate addiction. i can proudly say that i never tasted any chocolate since july. yeah sometimes i get urges but i am not able to eat it... seeing the chocolate in its wrapper looks really yummy but when i see it without the wrapper it just makes me want to throw up... so now i am planning to try the hypnosis again for my love of crisps and softdrinks. hope it would work :)

5 out of 5 stars My Daily McKenna Diary Bared to All (How Embarrassing): 10 lbs Down...20 to go!   November 20, 2008

So I read the book. I've decided to track my progress here so you can evaluate if this is a system that you can lose weight and stick to.

My boyfriend and I have been talking engagement, so I really want to be 30 lbs lighter for the next phase! WISH ME LUCK!!!

If you have tried every other diet and failed...or if you have never tried one and are overeating but cannot stop, this is the book for you. I swear, it cannot fail if you follow his 4 golden rules. Plus his CD included is genius and will help you every day when you listen. Even for us non-believers.

20Nov08

1. I've lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks - without giving up any food I like
2. I discovered I used to be super- anxious around food (I never knew!) and I have stopped overeating
3. I am strangely "happier" all the time (could be the book, or could be quitting my stinky job)
4. I look in the mirror and see a more beautiful body for the first time in years
5. I have never enjoyed eating as much as I do now

I was a SUPER skeptic - I've never bought a diet book in my life, and I have never succeeded in a diet.
This book IS NOT a diet. It's an eating system - one you can live with and enjoy forever. It teaches you

1. How to not overeat - easily (I've been a PIGGY eater since the day I was born)
2. How to discover and dismantle the reasons you overeat (even if you didn't know you had any)
3. How to control cravings / learn the difference between hunger and cravings
4. How to love what you see in the mirror / see a path to the thinner you

This is not a book for the faint at heart - it will make you laugh at his jokes, and cry at your own emotional issues that your overeating revolves around...and give you a way to manage them. Now I understand why all those people on Richard Simmons shows cried all the time.

At the beginning of the 2nd week I have not listened to the CD and have not been practicing McKenna's Golden Rule No. 3 as well as I did in week 1, but I am still losing weight and not overeating at all. This week feels more like happy, relaxed, manageable real life eating, rather than that First Week Diet I Can Do It gung-ho attitude that fades quickly during diets.

14Nov08

In the first week I listened to the CD every day, and practiced the "method" religiously.

I started to tell friends and my mom (who has struggled with weight her whole life) about the book and they laughed at me. They don't believe a hypnotist can make you skinny. I am mortified, but the system is working...so will the last laugh be on them!?

10Nov08
I read the book in one night and felt profoundly different around food the first time I sat down to eat - I used to have absolutely no self-control around food I liked. Now...it doesn't feel like a problem for me to be around it and not overeat / overindulge. The book even taught a trick for learning to "hate" your worst food enemy - mine's cheese.

Stay tuned, I'll check in in a few weeks to state my weight loss progress. And I promise to be truthful. Ugh, how embarrassing...

5 out of 5 stars I'm a major sceptic and it worked for me!   September 14, 2008

I am very sceptical about 'self-help' books, they seem to state the obvious and make you pay large amounts of money for it. However, I bought this on sale (sorry Paul!) as a buy three get one free deal - I couldn't find a third book I liked, I knew I needed to diet, and it was there. It sat on my bookshelf for months, unread. One particular Sunday, when depression over my weight and my job had made me hit an all-time low I was so desperate I read it. Cover to cover, in one sitting, to my surprise. I burst into tears at one point, embarrassingly, when a particular chapter made me ask myself how I could be so - neglectful? uncaring? - of myself. This is why I'm wary of self-help books, normally, that kind of thing gives me the creeps, but he put it in such a sensible, natural way it caught me off guard. And it made me think, because it was true. Then I listened to the CD, willingly, every day for over a month. The only slightly jarring note I found is that some of the words he uses on the CD are American, not English, and I find it breaks my mood slightly, but it was worth persevering.
Yes, it stated the obvious in some places, but explained it in a way that really made sense to me, at last. Eating for emotional support: he made me spot the triggers, and now I've actually stopped doing it. Eating when I wasn't hungry, being a member of the 'clean plate club': not any more. Yes, it takes will-power as well, of course it does, but I don't feel guilty (oh, joy!) when I eat chocolate or a pizza, and I (usually) don't finish it because I genuinely don't want to, so I don't feel deprived, just smug.
I've lost over two stone and I actually prefer to eat healthily, now; I'm very proud of myself, and grateful to him.
I recommend this: he explains things in a very down-to-earth way, he really does make sense and if you honestly want to lose weight - he will help you do it.
