I've broken the cigarette / nicotine gum cycle - 6 months on! January 1, 2009 traf0305 (Yorkshire, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I' been struggling with a cigarette / nicotine gum cycle for years before buying this book. I read the book and listened to the CD every day for about 4 days. That was 6 months ago and I haven't touched a cigarette or nicotine gum since. The book is clear and non patronising / preaching and looks at breaking the habit (nicotine gum is just a different habit). Previously I've always fallen off the wagon when having a drink - however I was out recently with a friend, stood outside the pub with her whilst she had a smoke, and it wasn't till later that I realised it hadn't even occurred to me to want one. Occasionally I miss smoking (not crave, just miss) but then the thought of lighting up actully makes me feel ill. It's fabulous - I can't recommend this book highly enough.
Unbelievable! November 2, 2008 sophistry 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have already recommended this to several friends, I just can't believe I've actually managed to stop smoking (since January 2008 - it's now November 2008) after at least a dozen failed attempts in the past using everything from hypnotism to group therapy, patches, sprays, sheer will power, even pregnancy and my kids begging me to stop couldn't prevent me from falling back into it after three months at best. This time, I couldn't believe how easy it all was! I read the book straight through without doing any of the exercises first, then started reading it again but this time doing the exercises. At the same time, I started listening to the cd and did this religiously every day for two weeks. After the third day I no longer had any desire to smoke - this had been planned as my quit day anyway - and in spite of parties, alcohol, friends tempting me to smoke, I haven't had one and haven't really wanted to. I have put on a few pounds but that's due to me being a greedy piggy! Needless to say I have recently bought Mr McKenna's book on how to lose weight...
Quit Smoking Today Without Gaining Weight October 14, 2008 G. Kennedy (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great book. Only read the first 3 chapters and listened to the cd a few times before I quit. I'd pop the headphone on and fall asleep each night. I didn't even realise I'd stopped until somebody asked why I wasn't smoking. I fully recommend this to everybody. Simply excellent!
Didn't Do Me Any Favours May 31, 2008 A. owens (N. Ireland) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I had high hopes for this book, The book itself isn't that long, a couple or 3 hours will finish it, Its full of visualisation exercises and a bit of psychology. The CD is about 30 mins long, I listened to it for 2 weeks and it was painful. I found myself getting bored each time about 10 mins in. He tells you to count down from 300, but when you reach 0 thats is, now what do I do?? Didn't work for me at all but may work for you
works for me too May 18, 2008 L. Gardner (Canada) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
it's funny how similar we all are. Like most of the previous reviewers I just gave the book a fast look and went straight to the cd. It's been a godsend, i have still gained weight, but who cares, have not had a smoke since I started listening to Paul.. about 6 weeks. Must admit I HAVE wanted to smoke, usually because I've forgotten to listen that day...At such times I force myself to stop gnashing and listen again to the CD to get my head straight. It provides complete relief, and a real sense that I can indeed accomplish this. Spend the money and take the time to listen at least once a day. You'll be glad you did. L>
