Excellent Book! Helped my relationship. July 29, 1999 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Agree with all of the other reviews below that this is a helpful book for anyone healing from loss. Wanted to add that it has really helped my relationship with my wife. She now sees that I have different ways to process my emotions...quieter than hers, more future and action oriented, and different in many ways but she now sees that I am indeed "dealing with my feelings"...just differently from the way she does. This has REALLY helped us.This is a book for the 21st century.
Tremendously helpful book for the grieving February 23, 1999 "Swallowed by a Snake" is an excellent guide for understanding and undertaking the masculine path of healing. Golden explains clearly and directly how grief operates and how men react to it in our society. He helps grievers establish a framework within which to transform guilt, anger, and helplessness into healing and compassion for themselves and others. It has been an extraordinary experience for me. With guidance from this book, I have begun to fashion a completely new life, putting the tragedies of my past in perspective and balance.
Useful tools and a road map to guide one through loss. December 15, 1998 Tom's words stories, and advice were most helpful following the loss of my dad. The material in the book honored my personal way of dealing with my grief. More importantly these insights allowed me to communicate about my loss in a way I never thought possible. As my healing unfolds, I have come to appreciate the uniqeness of men's approach to loss. I have given this book to five men in the pass year. Each found value in the book , each man's healing took a different path. I feel honored to have been part of their healing process. The book made it possible.
describes gender differences in grieving in various cultures September 1, 1998 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a quick-read book, explaining the differences in grieving between men and women in today's society. It also takes a look at how people grieved in past cultures, as well as cross-culture societies. It explains that today's society hides their true feelings of grief because we are afraid to touch upon this subject.
