Not for the British Market January 3, 2009 M. Bailey (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
A very nice book but so many of the recipes call for ingredients not available in Britain. Great for American cooks.
One of my favourites October 6, 2008 thegoodbook (Sevenoaks, UK) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
This book sets out to give recipes that are nutritious. This sounds dull, but actually the food is very good and the little bits of information about minerals and vitamins in food were very useful. I like cooking, and this is a 'cook's book'; she gives little tips on cooking, and - as a fairly experienced cook - I did find them helpful. Yes, she does tell you to roast and grind your cumin, but one can always take short cuts. Preparation does not take ages. Frying in a skillet is the norm, but then how would you get an intense flavour without it? The beauty is that there are no tins of condensed soup etc (well, yes in the tuna casserole, but I forgive her that). This is proper, healthy food. The one element that didn't suit me was the enormous vegetarian and vegetables section, but there are still lots of recipes apart from those. And lovely large print. Highly recommended
Healthy: Slow Cooker Recipes October 8, 2007 Dr. Tami Brady (Calgary, Canada) 34 out of 35 found this review helpful
The Healthy Slow Cooker contains over 100 healthy recipes that can be made using a crock pot. These recipes include main meal dishes for every meal as well as deserts. Each recipe is complete with full instructions, tips, make ahead ideas, and nutritional information. There is even a chart at the back of the book detailing the American and Canadian Diabetes Association Values of each dish. Like many people, there are days when I just can't face making a meal after a long hard day. At that point, nutrition pretty much goes out the window and fast food becomes an option. I like the slow cook alternative, particular those delicious, quick to prepare recipes that I can throw in the cooker at the start of the day and have ready for supper. That these meals are actually nutritious is an added bonus. Any recipe that actually reduces chaos and that my family actually likes to eat gets high marks from me.
