A quality product! November 16, 2008 Mr. A. P. Souter (Nottingham, Nottinghamshire United Kingdom) Well, I have to say I am very pleased with this stereo. The sound is rich and full, and you can alter the bass/treble in addition to a DSGX button that lets you further enhance the sound quality rather than fiddling around with pre-set "sounds" such as jazz/rock/concert hall etc. I've had no trouble with the DAB radio at all - upon first installation of the unit, I switched it on and all the stations were found automatically with no problems at all. The unit has a 3CD disc changer in addition to a tape deck cunningly disguised/integrated behind/with the main LCD display - this is great! Lets face it, we all have tapes that we still want to listen to! Good to see! One of the main reasons I purchsed this stereo was the feature that lets you use it as an alarm - i.e. you can programme the machine to wake you up in the morning to your favourite CD/radio station or tape - far more pleasant than waking up to a traditional beeping alarm clock! :D The unit looks good too - however, I've already removed the front "grills" or covers that come fitted over the speakers - this is a personal choice but I think the speakers look good "exposed". For a micro hi-fi, I am really impressed with the sound - the speakers are 50 watts each and have a good full frequency range. I really can't fault this machine at all - I see that some reviewers have had issues with the fairly short speaker cable lengths, but as one reviewer has explained, this is easily fixable if you are prepared to go down to Maplin or any other electronic store. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this machine and am so pleased to have something that ticks all the boxes!
Tuning and Memory Problems October 26, 2008 J. HENDY 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I purchased this item to replace an elderly Hitachi micro hifi; the name Sony and the current 'deal' being deciding factors in my choice. Upon receipt the system was set up in accordance with Sony instructions but, athough it initially 'locked on' to various DAB programmes, subsequently went into 'scan' mode, without achieving a further lock-on, each time that DAB was selected. Moreover, after each scan a 'No Serv' comment came up on the display however I have 2 other portable DAB radios that work very well indeed on this hill in this part of the south-west! Despite some initial success, the FM signal also became very intermittent and a loud background hissing became almost unbearable. After the various 'Sony manual' remedies had proved unsuccessful the set was returned to Amazon who achieved a very creditable 24 hour turnround. Amazingly the replacement set has been working very well indeed and the sound clarity seems excellent. Nonetheless, the best I can give this system is 2 stars as many other manufacturers might well have 'pulled' a system that has experienced so many 'similar' faults as evidenced from a variety of websites and users.
good value but ... September 21, 2008 Rufus (SUFFOLK United Kingdom) I bought this system in June. It worked fine and gave good sound. I was pleased with it for the money paid. Then in September the tuner stopped working. I contacted amazon by email on Friday and a replacement had been delivered the next day. Let's face it, things go wrong with these systems whatever the make. At least you can be confident that amazon will replace defective items.
Very satisfied customer July 30, 2008 J. Barry (United Kingdom) I required a micro system that could play my collection of cassettes and also provide me with DAB radio. Having read previous reviews on this item, it appeared to give me everything I needed. I was not disappointed and I am very pleased with the system. The overall sound quality is very good, it is easy to operate and install. I would not have any hesitation in recommending this Sony system.
An excellent little machine for the money July 22, 2008 Emma H (Yorkshire) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Needed a new machine and it had to have a cassette deck (as I still have a lot of homemade tapes from my youth!) and a DAB radio too so this was a perfect machine on paper and the price was excellent too! I read a lot of the reviews and was a little worried about the sound quality and the DAB signal. But the machine was for my kitchen and wasn't going to be my "state of the art machine." Arrived very quickly from Amazon (many thanks!) Very easy to set up, it is indeed correct that the speaker cables are not very long. I didn't appreciate this. They are about 1 metre in length maybe a little longer so please take note, it could be a problem. Switched on the auto tune for the DAB radio and oh-no, no BBC DAB stations as all. So re-tuned again and again and again. At that point my husband said "this is crap it's going back, that cheap DAB radio from Asda can pick up DAB and we live on top of a hill with a massive TV / radio mast nearby!" But I asked him to try moving the DAB aerial and interesting when he placed it horizontally rather than vertical and then retuned the BBC stations appears as did many more stations. So that maybe something for others who have made problems worth DAB to try. I have switched the machine on a few times since and the stations are still there. Very happy with the features, the sound quality and the price of the machine. No complaints so far and would recommend this. 5 stars.
