Product Description The LS Pro external DVD writer employs the very best of Freecom technology, enabling you to burn your data onto dual-layer DVDs. It also features LightScribe labelling technology, which burns a perfect label directly onto your disc, and efficiently saves and archives your documents. With this writer, you can save up to 8.5 GB of data onto one dual-layer DVD in just a few minutes! Extremely quick off the mark, the LS Pro has a record-breaking writing speed of 48x to CD and 20x to DVD, and is very easy to use thanks to its USB 2.0 and FireWire ports. All you have to do is hook it up to a free port on your computer and away you go!

Weeks of emails and no resolution. December 15, 2008 Normel 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Amazon have been ok (but I am yet to take them up on the offer of a replacement) but Freecom have been close to useless. The cd kept freezing the laptop and then on restarting the laptop the drivers were deleted. After many emails I got freecom to send me another Cd but they have sent a mac cd not a win! I bought another drive previously for a relative and it was OK but now I would not recommend them due to the after sales service.
Not perfect for all Macs December 12, 2008 John Tree (Poulton-le-Fylde, UK) I got this because of the glowing reviews from Mac users on this page. The Superdrive in my three year old iMac G5 started playing up, and it seemed cheaper to buy an external one than get a repair done. Although Toast recognises it and will burn Cds etc. there seems to be no simple way of altering the burn speed. When burning CDs I like to use slower speeds (8x or below) to reduce the risk of them being unplayable on CD players. Unfortunately, setting the speed in Toast seems to have no effect. I bodged my way round it by using an old USB 1 hub whose bandwidth will not allow more than 4x burning. Not ideal but it works. Otherwise it's fine...apart from Lightscribe which seems to be PC only.
Roxio Rubbish November 15, 2008 John Arthur Hollidge (Berkshire UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Complete waste of time Roxio disc showed input problem - roxio back up readily acknowledged the problem. After trying to cut and paste file they agreed to send a new disc.Email confirmed disc sent - never sighted. Pals in the know tell me Roxio is good when it works but........I can make no comment re the Freecom unit as I never got a chance to use it,,,,perhaps they should have a word with Roxio Downloading the software was never mentioned by either contact...it maybe an option.
Cheapy product September 22, 2008 K. Miyagawa (london) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is slightly big prodcuct. AC cabels, USB and Firewire cables are so easily released from sockets because of poor quality. It would make you nervous when you install software. In addition, It looks like in the metal case, this is made of plastic.... If you can pay 10 more, I recommend LACIE d2 DVD Firewire&USB2.0.
Perfect Match For Mac September 16, 2008 Mr. P. Leach (Kent England) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Have used this product with my IMAC now for a week, I have had no problems it opens up the Toast application and is easy to operate even for a computer novice like me. If you have a Mac I would recommend this product as a worthy addition
