Software not up to scratch December 15, 2008 Amazon Fan (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I thought I had bought a great piece of kit -looked impressive when out of the box. The picture quality is also great, and was to my expectations. Now for the bad points (in order of annoyance): 1. You cannot hook this onto a wall - so table top only 2. The remote looks faded and with continuous use you can imagine that the writing will just fade away 3. Even though you leave the frame plugged in, when you turn the power on, you have to manually start the slide show, and it does not pick up from where it was last ended. So you have to remember where you were last. 4. MP3 background music during playback is a great idea. However the music is sorted in alphabetical order, AND THERE IS NO RANDOM PLAYBACK. So you always listen to them in the same order. If you pause the slide show, the music stops and when you start it again, guess where it starts from? Yep from letter "A"... 5. Another nice claimed feature: Auto-rotate. When you read the product description, you would think the frame would detect a portrait picture and then auto rotate it so that it is displayed upright? Nope. You have to do it manually by using the remote control. 6. Another nice claimed feature: auto power on and auto off. You set the time, and you expect the slide show to start off at the set time? It is bad enough that another reviewer said that it powers on, and stays on the main screen waiting for someone to start the slide show - this would be patently useless. Mine is even worse: it does not even power on at the set time. The product is let down badly by the software defects. It would have received one star from me, but for the quality of the display itself. The life transition effect is described as stunning: it gave me a bad headache. Wrote an email to Linx customer support, no reply whatsoever. My unit is being returned as a number of the claims made are just not true. As usual though, brilliant service from Amazon. Item is being collected tomorrow for a refund. I will continue to look for a frame that does what it claims it can do!!
Exceeded all my expectation December 11, 2008 Michael M. Ordoukhani (Hertfordshire, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Exceeded all my expectations This is my first Digital Frame. I'm an artist, computer programmer, do a lot of photography and have several monitors, so I have a lot of photos on my desk which I change regularly. I was therefore looking for something that displays perfect images, is attractive and very usable. After reading over 100 reviews on different frames and assessing their spec I decided to get this. If you want to get a Digital frame then I suggest you go for the best, largest size and highest definition as possible. It makes all the difference. After all you will be looking at every hour it for years to come and any imperfection will get on your nerves. It is not like other devices that you use once a month. Bear that in mind. It is worth spending a lot of money for it. The image quality looks perfect to me. All the buttons are neatly hidden at the back but still accessible, are large and clear. The frame looks very simple with dark boarders which doesn't distract your attention and provides a good frame for all sorts of photos. The menu is very good and clear and attractive too. The remote is nicely laid out and intuitive. Cables when connected are well hidden and are not obstructive and are long enough. I haven't used it for a long period so I cannot comment on its durability. There are few points for improvements thought. The stand is made of chrome. I hate chrome, they chip and discolour easily. But luckily the stand is hidden from view. The stand also looks very fragile and feels like it could break easily, and if it does it would be very hard to get a replacement but perhaps can be fixed. It cannot be adjusted so you are stuck with only one vertical angle, which is not bad. I like this frame so much that I am buying another for my other room. I highly recommend it.
Good picture, but s/w lacks important functionality December 7, 2008 Bob Holmes (East Anglia) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This was an impulse buy from a High Street retailer. Having got the product home I thought I would check if there was any information about it on the net which brought me here. Here are the main points: Good: - The frame is stylish with the border not encroaching too much on the actual display. - It has a decent resolution of 800x480 so you can't see any horizontal lines which are somewhat obvious on other frames. If you look closely then yes, you can see the pixels. But if you're more than a foot away, you won't notice. - It's easy to setup and use. Bad: - As others have mentioned, when using the auto-on feature, the frame does not start showing pictures, it simply sits at the menu. This is a major drawback as the primary purpose is to show pictures. - Again, when switching the frame on manually, it does not immediately start showing pictures, just shows the menu. - When playing a video (tested with a .avi), the sound and picture went quickly out of sync (less than 5 minutes). Unfortunately, as I intended this as a present for someone who is older and not technically minded (like others here), the fact that the frame does not immediately start showing pictures after switching on is major flaw. I also tested removing the power to see if it would start showing pictures on power-up, but of course it has a built-in battery so that's no help either. In case anyone is wondering, there is no configuration option in the setup to change the behaviour of the frame on power-up. So regardless of what you do, the frame will not show pictures after power-up unless you interact with it.
Fantastic Frame November 26, 2008 A. Smith (South East England) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
When i bought the frame it was for my nan for her 80th birthday to keep the families photo's on it. I was so impressed with the spec of it and the price that I have now decided to get one for myself and one for my parents as they were also very impressed. I have seen so many different types on the market but this one is by far the best I have seen for price and quality. I would point my friends in the direction of this frame anyday as its awesome!!!!!!
Good looking screen let down by poor graphics and s/w glitches November 13, 2008 W. S. Wilkins (UK) 19 out of 20 found this review helpful
At first glance I thought I had bought a great frame and for a good price. Unfortunately it had to be returned because of: The colour depth on the screen is not good, at least on my unit. I suspect the graphics card is quite limited by today's true colour standards. This means I get very noticeable colour banding on photos that have a wide range of colours. Given this product is a photo frame, this is enough of a reason for me to reject it. I see no reason why the image quality should be no less than that which I get with my computer monitor. Please note that I am not talking about resolution, that is fine for the job. I also felt the screen could have been brighter but turning the brightness up just washed things out, so I guess this may be a factor of the not too brilliant contrast ratio. Second issue is that the auto on timer starts the unit at the main menu and not playing photos / videos / music (or whatever the unit was doing at auto off time). Would anyone want their unit to automatically come on at a set time and sit there doing nothing? I very much doubt it. This is a very useful feature ruined by bad software design in my opinion. The third issue is that screen speakers make a worrying popping noise when turned on or off (this might just be my unit though), certainly louder than a typical power on/off mains surge click. I am concerned about the overall effect this will have on the unit's life. Finally, the documentation regarding the internal battery states you should not charge the unit for more than 8 hours to preserve the battery's long term life, and claims the battery charge will last for about a month. This means you should unplug the unit after 8 hours, let the unit run till the battery is flat, then start all over again. The Linx website says the battery will last about 2 hours, which conflicts with the documentation. Clearly some confusion here, maybe just a documentation error, but certainly leaves an unanswered question in my mind. I just want a unit I can plug in and forget with auto on/off to save power. I thought this was the one, but unfortunately that was not the case for the reasons mentioned above. The unit is now being returned. I will go for a more expensive mainstream brand next time.
