Expensive freeview option January 1, 2009 Mr. Douglas Follett (Nr London, England) I bought this box as it had a deal with Setanta sports. However I'm now trying to return it as it compares very badly to my Windows Media Center and V+ box. Outside of the usability issues the most annoying feature is the frequent crashes when playing back recorded TV programs. AKA it is most useless at the one thing it is supposed to do over a cheaper Freeview Receiver Box. As we seem to have patches downloaded everyday I think Thomson know they made a bad box here - I don't know if patching will fix it eventually but they would do well to look at the V+ and Sky+ boxes on how to do this more seemlessly. For the price I would look elsewhere.
Aweful EPG and UI November 24, 2008 Mr. D. Britton 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bought this from Argos as it is very cheap for a 250GB hard drive, so it gets a star for that and a star for being able to record 2 channels at once. Apart from that, the Electronic Guide is so aweful to use I had it for aproximately an hour. It had to go back, there was no way I could live with its horrible scrolling and extemely bad navigation. To be fair, it has all the features you could want, but I couldn't get series record to work and after owning a Digihome PVR, decided on upgrading to the Digihome DVR160 with freeview playback, a much easier machine to live with and so simple to use even if it has a slightly smaller hard drive and I wasn't bothered about topup tv, so no real loss. Please don't get one of these.
The worst piece of technology ever put on the market November 9, 2008 Ditch WA5 (uk) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
After 12 months of suffering this disgustingly un reliable machine I have finally given up and put it in the skip. The Thomson help line is a joke. all they are interested in is trying to sell a subscription.
Do not buy this product! October 7, 2008 Angela Mackirdy (Ludlow, UK) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought this in May having decided to ignore the bad press! It was easy to set up, however even from the beginning had nuisance faults like missing some recordings, poor performance when pausing programmes etc. Freeze ups increasing until now at 5 months old it has frozen completely -I think the hard drive has failed as it is blessedly quiet at last! It's going in the bin.
Abysmal October 1, 2008 Filbert Street (Leicester, UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Purchased one of these three weeks ago, primarily for Setanta Sports which seemed great value (a season ticket for just 20 connection fee), but I'm already wishing I hadn't. It constantly fails to record programs without reason (just a message saying 'recording failed') which is very annoying, and also freezes up, shuts down and shows flickering images (nothing to do with my aerial because my old freeview box works fine) All in all, a very poor piece of equipment, extremely frustrating and totally untrustworthy if you plan to record anything on it...Avoid.
