Great quality - poor interface November 17, 2008 NeilC (Windsor, UK) Bought this a few days ago. First time that I've used a HDMI upscaler with my HD TV and I have to say I was amazed by the results. Absolutely superb picture for standard definition freeview. The unit is also quiet and runs well. As other reviewers have mentioned the major drawback is the interface. Having used TiVo when I lived in the states it amazes me that no manufacturer can replicate such a straight forward experience. For this unit, the guide won't let you select channels, the channel switching is slow and the menu interfaces not intuitive. I'm sure with a bit of practice and a good read of the 70+ page manual (!) I could get better at it, but the wife will never put up with that so it's most likely going to go back. BTW actually bought it from a Comet store but its 40 cheaper on Amazon so won't be making that mistake again! Also, Comet are an absolute rip-off for the cables, 29.99 was the cheapest one they had, but the guy tried to sell me one that cost 100? Incredible. This particular unit comes with an HDMI cable which was a nice touch.
Poorly designed November 9, 2008 K J Noakes 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Great picture quality, great features, but let down really badly by poor interface design. So... you can review channels from the program guide, but you can't then slect the channel you want to view from the program guide, you have to exit the program guide and type in the channel number! there are lots of other badly designed features but this one to me was a show stopper and had me taking the recorder back....if you are recording a channel you CANNOT watch another channel whilst it's recording.
Perhaps mine was faulty October 8, 2008 apen name (Suffolk, UK) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I bought one of these from Tesco a couple of days ago, but it went straight back. The picture quality from the DVB tuner was atrocious - I thought the image from my TV's tuner was bad (in comparison to my Sony STB), but this was on another level. DVD playback was almost acceptable, on a par with 20 DVD players, but don't expect the upscaler to actually do anything for picture quality. The biggest problem for me was the startup time. Over a minute to turn it on and get the drawer to open to accept a disk. Then, it made a horrible noise from the drive while playing movies. Like I say, perhaps it was faulty because my experience doesn't match the majority of reviews I read.

Not having seen any reviews for this player before buying, I was a little apprehensive before setting it up. I was amazed just how easy it was, they even included a hdmi cable to connect to my Toshiba TV..... It took me about 20 minutes to be up and running and enjoying the top quality image..... Menu's are user friendly, it's a joy to use !
