Amazon.co.uk Review Elite Force on the PC was a Trektastic first-person shooter set in the Voyager universe. The PS2 version is a direct port of the original game and unfortunately it's lost something in translation. The story plays like an episode of the hit show. The ill-fated USS Voyager answers a distress call only to find out that it's a carefully prepared trap which transports them to an alien ship graveyard from which there appears to be no escape. Their predicament forces Voyager's command crew to create the Hazard Team, a specialist squad charged with the task of exploring the other ships stranded in the mysterious vortex and discovering a way home. This is standard first-person shooter fare with a Star Trek twist. You take on the role of Alex (or Alexandra) Munroe and get to wander about various sci-fi backdrops with ever increasing firepower. The story is well done and really feels like being in an episode of Star Trek and the weapons are imaginative enough to keep you interested. There's the usual array of puzzles along the way, some surprises and you get to take on The Borg. But what is disappointing in this PS2 version is that there isn't anything really new about it. Graphically it's a shadow of its former PC self with the backgrounds looking pixilated and washed out and the load times are interminable. The enemy AI is also less than stellar with quite a few putting up less fight than a bag full of Tribbles
on vallium. Basically the PC version was so immersive that this console adaptation just doesn't do it justice; it's not bad, it just doesn't set your phaser to stun. FPS fans will find that the genre has moved on too much for Elite Force to make any kind of impact and it's really only going to appeal to true blue Star Trek fans who will probably already have played it to death on the PC. --Kristen Bowditch

On Par With The Show!!! October 11, 2006 Westley Nash (UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this game not long after it came out for the PS2. I have to say that this game is very DULL! I have played other ST games and sadly this one is one of the worst. The graphics are terrible, all square and bitty. The game itself suffers a lot from some very severe slow down, it occurs mostley when new enemies teleport in and when you vapourise enemy soldiers, the game seems to pause and then the graphics catch up, all of which just leaves you feeling very troubled. The biggest drawback with Elite Force is the loading times. The overall time it takes to load the different levels is almost the same as Quake 3, monumentally long! I suppose the gameplay isnt all bad, as you really get a lot of fun out of taking on the Borg, rotating weapons to penetrate their shields, until you get the ExMod gun anyway. To be honest the game is much like the TV series of ST Voyager. It just ticks along with a highly cliched script that leaves you feeling very underwhelmed. The dialogue and the voice acting sounds very dodgy and the game seems to lose steam in the middle with the best parts being the beginning and the end, until the end of level boss that is, right at the very end, that just comes across as being very unreal and just rips any star trek familiarity away completely. Once completed their is very little to keep you coming back. Plus the long loading times will often see you turn off before you've even played one level because you can't be bothered to wait. I would only suggest buying this game if you really like Star Trek Voyager or ST games otherwise avoid like the plague!
An ok game. June 11, 2003 David J Rillie (Musselburgh, East lothian United Kingdom) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Although many people say that this game is rubbish, and down right boring i dont agree. yes the graphics are a bit on the bad side (a bit boxy) but the game itsef is good. The story line is that of something u would find on a ST script, and u certainly get into the game. It doesn't have to be for die hard fans either, as all you really do is shoot ure enemies down. The story line could be a bit longer though, as i completed it in about three days and i was playing that on and off.I dont need to explain the plot as my other collegues have already done that. Altogether, if u just want to shoot and be shot at this is the game for you. (its not gruesome though)!

I love star trek. I'm not one of those people with no life, a complete set of federation uniforms and a diploma in the Klingon language, but I find a lot of it particularly appealing. First impressions: WOW! I'm inside a borg cube! Pity it's so darn yellow... Second impressions: Why couldn't they have put the real voyager music on? And who are they trying to kid? WATCH THEM WALK! They can't even smoothly turn their heads. Last impressions: I'm ashamed to own this game. Even the cutscenes are choppy. A favourite game of ours is "Guess the character" becasue they look very un-lifelike. Don't waste money on this, no matter how much you like star trek. I'm serious. Buy Armada II for the PC. That's a good game. This isn't.
Noooooo, what have they done!!!! August 25, 2002 K. Taylor (UK) 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
Where can I start? The PC version of Elite Force was great, nice graphics, good AI and good control. So how on earth has the conversion turned out so poorly. AI? None of it, sure your team mates show some intelligence but the enemy just run towards you Doom style till they are all dead. Controls? Fine. If you like ice skating and generally being unable to control your own direction. And finally the graphics. I found it hard to tell whether I was playing a PS2 game or a PSOne game. How blocky are they!! And to make matters worse multiplayer is slow and boring thanks to some serious framerate issues. Ah well maybe there will be a good Star Trek game on PS2 one day....
sooooo BORING!!!!! July 3, 2002 2 out of 8 found this review helpful
As much as i like star trek voyager ( the tv series) i have to say that the game was lacking in every way. Although the layout and the voice overs were all that of the show voyager i thought that it lacked any resemblence to the show that we all know and love ( maybe). The game would benifit alot more if it wasnt a first person shoot em up but more like the camera angle for metal gear solid 2. All in all i was very dissapointed with this star trek game
