Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
Sticking firm to the old "if it ain't broke…" philosophy, Westwood Studios conjures up memories of the original Command & Conquer games with Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 Gold Collection, which includes the original game and the mission disk, Yuri's Revenge. The game is set just a few years after the events of the original C&C: Red Alert and opens with a surprise Soviet invasion of the US mainland.

Playing as the startled Americans, you must cobble together a resistance and beat the invaders back into the sea. Playing as the Soviets, you must quickly establish control of your new domain. You still lead a small group of infantry and armoured units in most missions and you still have to assemble a base of operations in order to accomplish just about anything. This time around, however, you'll have a slew of new units to build and command in the field--most of which are pretty slick. The American Prism Tank, for example, can take out numerous enemy units with a single, branching attack. On the Soviet side, Tesla Troopers and Psychics help make ground troops a formidable asset.

Yuri's Revenge Mission Disk: at the end of Red Alert 2 the Soviet threat was vanquished and Yuri, the Reds' psychic warrior fled. Now he's back in his own mission pack and as it says on the tin, he's out for revenge. To this end he begins building a network of psychic dominators with the plan of turning the good ol' US of A into a race of mindless automatons, eager to do his bidding.

The Allies manage to hold Yuri off in San Francisco just long enough for Einstein to propel you back through time to try and change the course of history. Both sides will battle against Yuri and try and avert his psychic domination of the world, but if you play the Soviet campaign, your mission will not only be to stop Yuri, but also restore Mother Russia to its former glory.

The add-on pack offers 14 new single-player missions, (seven for each side) and although you won't be able to control Yuri's forces in the single-player game, you can in multiplayer and skirmish games. As well as the new missions you get new units on both sides. This is a great add-on for an entertaining game and shows that the Command and Conquer franchise is still very much alive and kicking. --Kensington Walsh

5 out of 5 stars Red Alert 2 IS the best   August 10, 2007

Red Alert 2 is the coolest game on the earth. Some people dislike the graphics, but i think it has a relativley good one. Main reason for it's not excelent graphics is that it has been created a long time ago. Then the people had to make games that work on slow PC-s.But i believe that it's graphics are excelent. Someone said that the game is about tank rushes. This is NOT true. You have loads and loads of optios, BUT you MUST have a little creativity.

5 out of 5 stars Great fun!   November 3, 2006

I've had this game since I was 9 and I've always found it very exciting, I'm 15 now and 6 years later, I still peek at the game every once in a while. There's a really good multiplayer interface which is limited only by your computer speed and internet connection, but even really slow computers will be able to play single player games without any sort of lag or pausing suddenly striking you in the backside. Just be careful not to cheat in this game or you'll have to buy a new one!

(I think there's Red Alert 2 and Red Alert 2 Yuris Revenge) : Of the two games included, Yuri's Revenge is best, Yuri finally gets a side and the soviets become the mother of all that is cheap. Allies also get some way overpowered weapons such as the Battle Fortress and just like before, the Prism Tank is excellent material, just don't forget to put Guardian GI's and a Navy Seal into your Battle Fortress or it'll go in alone with no defence!

I spent months playing this game. It is a true classic though.

However, why pay 26 ?? Buy it second hand for an average of 2 per game.

5 out of 5 stars The best C et C game yet!   October 31, 2004

If you enjoy strategy then you can't fail to love this pack. Every unit is designed with love and every mission is embued with fiendish twists, RA2 is a masterpiece in rts form.
So it is getting on abit and the graphics aren't up to much, but everything else makes up for it;
Cool technologies, Unique units, Stunning scenarios, they're all there!
Don't forget skirmishes, there is still a dedicated following for RA2 and you get plenty of bonus maps to play on bundled free on the disks.
So if you fancy a blast from the past then comrade, I emplore you to buy this pack!

5 out of 5 stars I Can't Believe What The Other Guy Wrote !!!   August 10, 2004

After reading 2 reviews of this game, a game ive played for years now and have literally never uninstalled since installing it for the first time, i had to write one myself.

The first review i read referred to the fact that people will only buy new games because of the advance in games nowadays, s/he also states how RA2 is an exeption to the rule, damn right it is.

The second i read simply slated the game, saying how everything to do with it was bad.

Red Alert 2 is an equilibrium of resource management, aggression/defense, strategy, fun and graphical splendour. I can't understand how anyone can diss the graphics, for a totally 2 dimentional game, they are absolutely amazing. The skirimishes can be played unlimited times because the same thing will NEVER happen twice and with the large amount of modifications availiable for download on the internet you CANT get bored of it (literally the whole game including the menu's can be modifyed, i suggest you get moomans mod if you already have the game!)

Ill finish with first a quote from one of the other reviews...
"Take my advice; buy Tiberian Sun. It's much, much better."
And my response...

"DONT BUY TIBERIAN SUN, ITS THE ONLY LET DOWN TO THE C&C FRANCHISE, BUY THIS GAME NOW !! ITS BY FAR THE BEST STRATEGY GAME OF ALL TIME !!"
