5 out of 5 stars Brilliant best game i have played!   February 8, 2008
Simple Simon (UK)
Well done on producing a true classic game. Great action/ storyline and atmosphere. This should be a leeson to all other game developers. As someone has already mentioned you are on a mission throighout the game and you know exactly what you are "trying" to complete at all times. The cut scenes we brilliant. Just superbly put together right from the off.

I might play it again. Took me about 5 weeks to complete. Pretty difficult in some parts. It gets really frantic in the latter part of the game. It really builds up and I got killed so many times on that final part it was tricky. I was pretty sad when I completed it as well. I have looked around for something similiar but I am afraid nothing comes close.

GREAT GAME. BUY IT, play it and remember it. PLEASE, bring out a sequel

Great game, but I have one gripe:

The blood test sometimes goofs up. I swear I did it and a few seconds later the guy changed.

Other than that, great game.

5 out of 5 stars Best I've played   January 27, 2005

I was so angry when I completed this game. It was THE best game I've ever played. Maybe it was just me an old time horror fan but this game had everything:

1) GREAT storyline. They got the balance JUST right. No going around killing "things" for the sake of it. You are on a mission and you know exactly what you are doing all the time. Great sub plots all gel into one big "movie"

2) Atmosphere. Pheww.....What's that running over there? Why is mypartner shaking like a leaf? Is anyone infected? Ahhh...The cut scenes were superbly executed and keep the story line going at a fast pace.

3) Difficulty is just right. Took me 6 weeks to complete. Odd hour (every day ) here and there. The final 1/4 of the game gets really tough.............. Phew so many dead things and bodies.

It's not just mind lesss shooting in this game like so many others. This is like being involved in a movie. There's strategy, puzzles to solve. "Things" to think about. BUY IT. You cannot go wrong.

My hatis off to the programmers and designers of this EXCELLENT game. You captured my life for 6 weeks :-)
Now bring out The Thing 2 PLEASE...

4 out of 5 stars Well worth playing, and so cheap!   August 18, 2004

This is a great game. You already know the script so I won't repeat it all. It's a great addition to the 1982 film and plays very much in the style of a movie. The graphics are great, the effects are effective (as they would be) and the game play is excellent. The most unique aspect of the game is the trust meter and the constant danger that one of your team may be infected. I played the game with constant suspicion that 'so and so' may be infected and ready to turn at any moment. I found myself trying to keep them in view at all times incase they changed. It is certainly a surprise to turn around and see someone either changing or already changed.
I can't find any aspects of the game that I didn't like. I guess the only niggle would be that I found it very difficult in some spots, but then all games have their tricky bits. At the current price the game is well worth playing and for any fan of the movie it should not be missed.

What a game! The main aim of the game is to prevent disaster and the spreading of a shape-shifting alien that hunts down humans. All the alien can think of is to kill and spread such a Virus.

Throughout the game you are faced with aliens of all descriptions. The screams and their movements are realistic and exciting. As soon as they see you they charge towards you in effort to destroy you, until you pull out your flamethrower. Place a fire upon the ground and the aliens will avoid the fire and find an alternative route to get you. Set them on fire and you'll see them scattering around trying to Extinguish the flames.

It is not just aliens you are faced with, but humans. A certain organisation wants to prevent you on your quest for justice but unfortunately their AI is not up to scratch. Throw a grenade and they will not respond. Sometimes they will walk right up to you in a zombie fashion without responding as though they are waiting to be shot. BUT when they attack they attack with fury reducing half your health in seconds. Apart from that the action leaves you at the edge of your seat.

The AI of your allies is superb. The way they respond and react to enemy attacks are life like and the way certain members of your team panic at the sight of blood and cut up bodies really add to life like circumstances. Strategic thinking is required to gain confidence from your fellow allies. Give them weapons and ammo, cure them after battle, and help them out, increases their trust in you. But watch your back. Throughout the game certain members of your teammates may become infected and turn into The Thing.

The boss attacks are fun, but fairly easy. If you are good enough, you may kill a boss first time round. I killed the final boss on the second try. They are well designed and imaginative.

Saves are placed in well-organised locations and are generous enough, not leaving you in a heart-breaking situation if you are killed.

GRAPHICS: 8/10
Wonderful graphics. Animation is spot on.

SOUNDS: 9/10
Creepy music. Life like sounds from the aliens and surroundings.

GAMEPLAY: 8/10
Wonderful game. Each scene will encourage you to see the next. But one problem, IT IS TOO SHORT.

The Good Points:

Excellent graphics.
Excellent sounds from aliens, humans and surroundings.
Wonderful story line.
Very good cut scenes.
Excellent new interface with your allies.
Trust from your ally's works perfectly well.
Creative bosses.

The Bad Points:

The game is too short.
Enemy human AI is rubbish.
Ending is total rubbish.

FINAL RESULT:
8/10
