Amazon.co.uk Review If you have so far resisted the draw of the famed people-management game, then The Sims: Double Deluxe might just swing the scales. It allows you to create, direct and manage the lives of SimCity's residents. Each need (eg: hunger, comfort, hygiene) can be met by interacting with other Sims or objects--throw a party with the help of a rocking stereo system and watch your Sims' Social and Fun ratings improve. One gameplay goal is to improve your Sim so he or she can climb the career ladder. Such progress nets him or her more money and allows the purchase of higher quality stuff. Eventually your Sim will have a mate, kids and a mansion with an indoor pool. Whether you're the occasional Sims player or one of the diehard fans who's seen the one-hundred-hours congratulation message, the Livin' It Up and House Party expansion packs will rekindle any flame for this game that's dwindling. In House Party the emphasis is on making your Sims as sociable as possible and there are several theme-party sets including Hawaiian and the option to throw a party, but make sure that it goes with a bang otherwise some unwanted non-player characters might show up and nothing kills the party mood like a mime. The expansion packs add a range of new gadgets and gizmos to play--and if you are an avid Web fan then you will notice some of the downloads here, especially the gerbil and balloons--but Maxis have realised this and have been busy creating many other features. New career paths with over 50 jobs have been added. Become a psychic investigator or a musician, a slacker or a journalist. All roles come with new toys to play with at home. If this isn't enough, the game also includes new neighbourhoods to try out if you've run out of space in the current one, although the only drawback is that you can't move from neighbourhood to neighbourhood. The SimsLivin' It Up and House Party are a great addition to the original, having you completely hooked again in no time and saving up for those elusive expensive items, such as the automatic robot maid. --Stuart Miles

Has been outdone April 25, 2006 kmmorri (Wiltshire, England) A good game, but has been out shone by far with the new Sims 2. Easy to use although a little basic, would be better suited to young users than Sims 2. The images are very flat, but the screen is easier navigated that the updated game.
The Sims Deluxe Version July 30, 2004 10 out of 15 found this review helpful
When I bought this game I could truly not put it down,it has so many options and features it will keep you amused for years to come. In the Sims Deluxe their has new features never seen before in the Sims, including new furniture and new wallpaper. If you havnt got the "Sims" or are looking for a new PC game. this is the game for U! Truly worth the money and a real bargain considering on Amazon you can get it for dirt-cheap. The Sims Deluxe still has kids and adults, ranging from bad, angry relationships to happy realationships full of love. In this game it brings 'The Sims' and 'The Sims: Living it up' on to two CDs, never seen before. A very good game and worth the buy.
Totally Hooked!!! June 17, 2004 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
Double Deluxe was my first experience of the Sims. I bought it at the beginning of the year and am still playing at every opportunity - so are the kids. I have become very fond of my various Sims and tend to care about them as if they were real people. It is very satisfying to help them have fun, learn new skills and make progress in their careers. They also enjoy making new friends on their holidays. I love buying new stuff for their homes and redecorating. We had one late, late night when one Sim became ill and would have died if I hadn't trawled the website for tips! My son was very relieved in the morning when I told him she was OK.... I would recommend Double Deluxe 100% to anyone considering a Sims game - it has absolutely everything you could want and more. I would like to get the Makin' Magic add-on at some point, but there's plenty to keep me going for the next year or so!
You must buy this game! February 27, 2004 Jacob Loats (Hong Kong, China, Asia, Earth, Milky Way turn left at Omacron Perseii 8) 6 out of 14 found this review helpful
This game is the epitemy of cool! My girlfriend and I have become absorbed by the intelligent and intricate gameplay as well as the awesome social interactions available with this game. If you have ever played any of the other Sims games then you will be sure to enjoy this suffusion of amazing graphics and charismatic storytelling. In short, this game is overpriced but worth every penny!
Stunning Value for Money February 13, 2004 17 out of 20 found this review helpful
If you've ever played The Sims, you'll know what I mean when I say that this is an addictive game. But to those who've never played The Sims, THIS is the pack to get. This includes The Sims, the "House Party" and "Livin' It Up" expansion packs, plus an extra "Bonus Content" disc - four discs worth of Sims, houses, objects, locations, wallpapers, floor tiles; everything you could possibly want to enhance your Sims lives and homes. The game itself is a people-management game - really, the intention of the developers was to market this as an interactive soap opera. All the characters (Sims) interact with each other - talking, watching TV together, eating together, playing games, listening to music, playing music, dancing - everything you could imagine. They have jobs, friends, love interests, children; everything real families and people have. They just need someone to help them along - that's where you come in! Well worth the money; doubly so with the Double Deluxe edition. It's the one to go for.
