Cheap and Cheerful May 28, 2008 M. Harding (Portsmouth) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Not a game for hardcore strategists as there are a few problems that take away from effective mission planning. For example tanks are stopped by small walls and wooden fences so your units are made more vulnerable because of the detours they are forced to take, it is also annoying how easily overcome a garrisoned building is and that instead of fleeing when confronted by armour your infantry decide to shoot at it. The intial briefing effectively marks out the location of all the enemy units on the map, so moving around the map is quick and easy, which again takes some of the strategy away because unlike sudden strike you are not forced to creep forward constantly repositioning equipment but instead position it just outside of the enemies line of sight and then use binoculars to uncover enemies for your tanks and artillery to light up. This in some ways makes the game more fun because levels do not take hours to complete like in many other strategies so it does not consume your life but still provides entertainment. There are some good things in the game that encourage a strategic approach such as the differing lines of sight on vehicles and infantry and also the differing weapon ranges. For example a tank has a fairly long firing range but it cannot see very far, and a commander has binoculars that allow him to see very far but his weapon is very short range, so by combining the 2 you have created an advantage. Overall this game is pretty fun as the missions are fairly straight forward so it doesnt require as much thnking and planning but they still provide a challenge. There is a good mix of infantry and armour missions with the infantry only ones being some of the more enjoyble, along with those that have limited amounts of armour. The levels that have 6 tanks or more however tend to be too easy. For 7 though this game is worth it and it will still keep you entertained for hours and provides something differnt from whats out there already.
