What a Super-Shambles! April 20, 2007 CK (Stoke-on-Trent, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this game simply because i loved the movie and thought the game would be pretty cool. It is not. The basic concept is that your on a board-game and which represents metropolis, as villains appear they take control of some of the squares, and other various 'fires' break out, the more squares taken over by the baddies and fires reduces metropolis's health (eventually causing you to lose the game). Your job as superman is to move around the board taking on mini-missions to regain control of the city and put out the fires. If you land on a 'fire' the mini game consists of the exact same challenge over and over again but in different disguises (ie, you fly around finding objects and destroy them in a stupidly short time limit). If you land on a villain square the mini mission consists of watching the X Y A B buttons fall randomly down the screen, which you have to type in the right order as they fall, every one you get reduces the villains strength, everyone you miss reduces yours, again this is the same mission for every villain you mini mission with. The actually story of Superman Returns does occasionally crop up with pictures and written dialogue and the occasional related mini game, so far there have been 2 mini games which involved flying whilst avoiding falling debris (which is the only light relief from the monotony of the board-game play. In addition to this is the poor quality of graphics, sound and music. The game seems to get stuck in places and there are glitches galore, which makes the game even more infuriating! Admittedly, i have not completed the game, so perhaps something amazing will happen half way through......but i doubt it, and quite frankly i cant be bothered to suffer anymore of the monotonous game play.
