Very disappointing January 7, 2009 Nick Flynn (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Please don't buy this game unless you have a fast a reliable internet. I don't, right now I have a slow and unreliable internet connection. I didn't think this would be a problem as the product activation was straight forward and I only wanted to play the single player game. What really upset me was was that in order to do to play the single player game I had to sign on to various online servers just to save game in single player mode. It did not mention this on the cover or in the manaul so I had no idea what I had let myself in for. To make matters worse i had to download several updates just to make the game work. These took ages to download, after 10 hours of so I just had to call it day. Very shameful performance from Rockstar, I was really looking forward to playing GTA 4. If they can make it work properly on a console without an internet connnection then why not for PC. All in all a complete waste of time.
Once Patched this game is fabulous January 6, 2009 T. Runge (London, UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
There are an excessive amount of negative reviews about this game, however mine is not one of them. I read the reviews, got the patches before doing my initally install. That meant my expectations were managed. Once patched, both game (using Games for Windows) and Nvidia graphic card, the game has performed nearlly perfectly. The game play is excellent and I think is a worthy successor to Saint Andreas. With Game play like that I soon forgot the technical issues I had at first install..
I'm sending it back January 6, 2009 Angstrom (Kafiristan) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
For some reason it decided that my soundcard was not a soundcard and therefore would not start. Strange how every other game can see that card eh? I did everything to try and get it to run, installing .net 3.5 to install the latest of every kind of driver ... nothing but fail. My machine can play many other recent and demanding games, but this game is just a bad port by a lazy developer. I just reinstalled XP to be rid of the evil it did to my machine. Well, with no response at all from their so called 'support department' after two weeks, so back to Amazon it goes.
Great game in the series, but be prepared for a long install January 5, 2009 V. Fisher (Hertfordshire) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I struggle to see what all the negativity is about. Sure the game takes an age to install, but the gameplay is faithful to the series. I have a reasonable spec PC and it runs fine without crashes or glitches (so far).
Don't buy unless you have an Xbox controller January 3, 2009 Mr. Daniel A. Woodruff (UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have just spent days trying to get this game to work. It won't work without an official xbox controller. You can find a hack on the internet to bypass this, but then can't save the game as you can't save without logging in to Windows Live, which then automatically updates the game so the hack doesn't work. Thanks for nothing Rockstar.
