Manufacturer's Description The third game in the Fallout series, Fallout 3 is a singleplayer action role-playing game (RPG) set in a post-apocalyptic Washington DC. Combining the horrific insanity of the Cold War era theory of mutually assured destruction gone terribly wrong, with the kitschy naivety of American 1950s nuclear propaganda, Fallout 3 will satisfy both players familiar with the popular first two games in its series as well as those coming to the franchise for the first time. Welcome to the nation's capital. View larger. | The Brotherhood of Steel is a powerful ally. View larger. | Customize characters with your Pip-Boy. View larger. | The Story: Vault 101 - Jewel of the Wastes For 200 years, Vault 101 , a fallout shelter, has faithfully served the surviving residents of Washington DC and its environs, now known as the Capital Wasteland. Though the global atomic war of 2077 left the US all but destroyed, the residents of Vault 101 enjoy a life free from the constant stress of the outside world. Giant Insects, Raiders, Slavers, and yes, even Super Mutants are all no match for superior Vault-Tec engineering. Yet one fateful morning, you awake to find that your father has defied the Overseer and left the comfort and security afforded by Vault 101 for reasons unknown. Leaving the only home you've ever known, you emerge from the Vault into the harsh Wasteland sun to search for your father, and the truth.Key Features: - Limitless Freedom! - Take in the sights and sounds of the vast Capital Wasteland! Facial expressions, gestures, unique dialog, and lifelike behavior are brought together with stunning results by the latest in Vault-Tec technology.

Really good fun for the majority, tedius at times. November 17, 2008 Mr. D. J. Morley (UK) When I first started this game, I was amazed by the graphics and the combat style. VAT's is just great fun, especially when you get a few levels higher and have skills to blow people in to shreds. Okay, a bit gruesome, but still it's part of the game. The main quest line is slightly short, but you can easily crank out 30-40 hours playing this game, which for me is a decent amount. The problem with these 30-40 hours is that quite a lot of it you will be wondering around a huge map, trying to work out how to get past rubble. Once you get all the way points on your map, its a lot more fun because there is less walking involved. Some of the quests can be slightly confusing, with not much explaining of what your supposed to do, so exploring is in order and a bit of patience is needed sometimes. Other than that the game is awesome.
FRUSTRATION!!! November 16, 2008 N. Wilcock (UK) 0 out of 6 found this review helpful
When I first purchased this game I got it home and played on it for about 4-5 hours straight. then next day played some more, finally I got to the water purification Unit with my dad having spent most of the day tracking him down. THEN it all went horribly WRONG game just kept on freezing up on me mainly as I was in the purification unti by Rivet city. I get the feeling that i was so close to seeing my dad achieve his goal but unfortunatley i never as i could bot get past a specific door a kept on feezing up and screen stayed black. I even tried to load from a pre-saved point just before the door without success, saved game just freezes as it tries to load. All-in-All very dissapointed as this game until that point was excellent. I even took the game back the shop for a replacement only to get it back home and for it to FREEZE in exactly the same point. Visited numerous forums/sites and apparently there are lots of people experiencing these problems which is a shame as it could have been such a great game. Took the latest copy back and exchaged it for CoD 5 (completed now though) so missing FO 3 GUTTED...
A Great Game!!! November 14, 2008 Schreeny (Manchester) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
From reading the other reviews, you might get the impression that this is a fantastic game, and that's because it's true! I myself don't usually play this type of game but was attracted to its story and impressive visuals. This leads into the actual gameplay itself, with easy to use controls, excellent graphics depicting a post-apocalyptic environment, and an involving story to follow. I've only played a few hours' worth of Fallout 3, so I can't tell you too much what happens, and besides other reviewers have gone into this, but the opening is clever and makes good use of the character you play growing up to familiarise yourself with how to play the game and set the narrative, to leaving Vault 101. A must-by and would make a perfect x-mas present for any role-playing/shoot-em-up fans.
Oblivion all over again November 13, 2008 P. Benson 1 out of 9 found this review helpful
good start to the game but once you get out of the vault you are either walking about looking for items or using the special targetting system again and again, exploding heads gets really boring. Also it is unbelievable how much time you are expected to spend collecting boring items to sell for the hard to find money. Obviously some people love this sort of thing hence the reviews below. I played and completed Oblivion, I was compelled to finish it but did not enjoy the experience, fallout 3 is better than Oblivion but I realized 15 hours in I was not enjoying it either. I was a couple of quests away from finishing but thought whats the point? I cant face any more walking or shooting super mutants, I traded the game and I'm glad. I want to be entertained by videogames. Fallout 3 has the same feeling of meaninglessness to it as Oblivion.
Absolutely Awesome! November 13, 2008 Morris Day (Herts, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There have been two games for the 360 that I played and instantly wanted to play them again - firstly Mass Effect and now Fallout 3 - it is quite simply amazing. The scope in the game is so vast that you can play it exactly how you desire - I was Mr Goody Two-Shoes first time around, saving innocents, killing thugs and taking all the good options in conversations, now I'm excited about playing it again the evil way - killing innocents, helping the bad guys, but of course still killing mutants along the way. Obviously you'll get some duplication and in some places the game will be linear but there is so much scope in conversations and peoples responses to you that I won't get bored. Fallout combines the atmosphere of the brilliant Bioshock (in places it can be hard to see even with your watch light on), action of CoD / Bad Company and the side quest of Mass Effect all combined to make a dark, brutal and electric game. I do bother with RPG rivals bickering - simply play this game. There are quite a few side quests to do also which certainly helps to bump up the hours of gameplay - my advice - stay away from the fire ants until you have a) a good long range gun and b) some good armor and stimpacks!! 9.5 out of 10
