Product Description The first all-new 2D Mario platformer since Super Mario World has arrived! Boasting incredible 3D graphics to accompany classic 2D gameplay, this fast-paced adventure will have Mario fans cheering as they make their way over fields, under water, through castles, and into the air. The power of the DS is used to great effect, and the result is that the Mushroom Kingdom looks more alive than ever. Backgrounds are beautifully layered and every character on screen is presented in gorgeous 3D, with Piranha Plants baring their teeth with wild abandon and Goombas looking almost too cute to stomp on. Just below the surface you will find hundreds of hard-as-nails mini-missions that will force you to reconsider your supposed Super Mario supremacy. The real challenge of the game is tracking down its 240 Star Coins, which allow you to open up paths on the eight world maps. Each level hides three of those shiny collectibles: sometimes they're in plain sight but require a special skill in order to be reached. Other times they're cleverly hidden, and sometimes you will need one of the game's special new power-ups to find them. Nostalgic and new in equal doses, New Super Mario Bros. is, quite simply, a gem of a game.
Amazon.co.uk Review In a nutshell: It's been over fifteen years since the last Super Mario Bros. but finally Mario is back in a proper 2D platforming adventure. Just because it's old school though doesn't mean it's old hat...The lowdown: Considering the last Super Mario Bros. game is still the best selling video game of all time (17.28 million copies and counting) this has a lot to live up to, but it almost effortlessly captures the action and charm of the old games. The basics of the game are the same as always as you run and jump through mostly horizontally scrolling levels. New to the game are power-ups that turn Mario into a giant or make him really tiny, as well as one that gives him a Koopa shell on his back to attack enemies with. Although the gameplay is all in two dimensions the graphics are 3D, with all new moves such as the triple jump and wall jump added in as well. Most exciting moment: As well as the single player mode there's also a wireless multiplayer mode where you get to battle a friend (as Luigi) across a whole bunch of specially designed levels. Since you ask: As Super Mario World on the SNES (since re-released as Super Mario Advance 2 on the GBA) was subtitled Super Mario Bros. 4 in Japan that name couldn't be used for this new game, although that's secretly whatever everyone's calling it - behind Nintendo's back. The bottom line: The impossible has happened: Nintendo have created a worthy follow-up to Super Mario Bros. 3! Harrison Dent

Miss F A October 2, 2008 This is a really good game. I'd heard fab reviews on it so I bought it myself. It arrived quite slowly but I'd not picked express so nevermind. At first, you watch a little video, explaining what's going on. Then you pick the first part of world one and carry on going. You can't change charactor, you have to be Mario, but then it makes sense. The games are mixed difficulty; some are easy and some are hard. It does get annoying because if you get stuck on a part of a world, you have to complete it before getting onto the next part. There are 8 worlds all together. In each world there is about 10 levels. Each world is set in a different place including, Desert, Space and a more homey setting. I wouldn't get this game if you get easily irritated with not being able to complete things easily. It's a good game to get you threw long journeys in the car, or just wanting to do something fun. You can also get games where you can play with another nintendo. In this, you can play minigames or Mario vs Luigi. Minigames are simply minigames where you play rounds with another person on another nintendo ds. You can play up to 3 other people on this (4 including yourself). I enjoy this as it is a laugh and a great amount of fun. Mario vs luigi is where you pick a setting (out of 5 different 1's) and you play against another nintendo by collecting stars, and making them lose. It's a competitive game and you easily get annoyed with the other person for getting something or making your person die, and go back to the begining. There's a short area for them to do what you aim for. In Mario vs Luigi you can only do 2 player. The good thing about multiplayer games is that you can connect to another nintendo person who doesn't have New Super Mario Bros. Overall this game is very good and I definately reccommend it.
PURE PLATFORMING FUN ON THE MOVE - MARIO STILL RULES IN DS LAND September 17, 2008 Mr. Christopher J. Welch (Lincolnshire, UK) Although this was released nearly 2 years ago New Super Mario Brothers DS is still hanging around the top 20 and commanding full price in most Games outlets. Almost unique in the land of video games, and certainly unhead of in the handheld world, NSMB has proved a massive hit with adults (looking for retro fun) and their offspring alike. If you like platforming games then this is as good as it gets. Period. The basic structure and design is as its always been - Mario runs, jumps and squishes baddies - but now its all beautifully presented and the levels are faultlessly designed. The difficulty is set just about right and there are enough hidden levels, bonus sections and secrets to unlock to ensure that you'll be playing this for months. This game actually rewards and encourages replay. The ace up Mario's little red sleeve though is the mini games - all of which are unlocked from the start - and these can be played solo or with a friend. There are dozens of them - puzzle games, action, strategy and more - many of which are almost as wildly addictive as the main quest. So the reason for NSMB longevity is simple - it's a terrifc family game and it's great value for money.
Great game. August 25, 2008 rocketsauce 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This was the first game I got with my DS and I've really enjoyed playing it. I'm not the best games player but this Mario is amazing! The graphics are lovely and it's just generally a really good, fun game to play. There's plenty of levels and various extra things you can unlock too, which makes it even more fun. I also like the way you only need one game card and then someone else with a DS can go against you, playing wirelessly, on the mini games which are surprisingly addictive. Even my dad who thought the idea of me getting Mario was ridiculous was hooked on the card games for hours! All in all I think it's a brilliant game with hours of fun gameplay and definitely worth getting!
A great game August 3, 2008 Tom Skailes (UK) We bought this before going on a trip to NZ in February to keep our children amused. They love it and are still happily playing it 6 months later.
Mario Is Back!!! July 20, 2008 Samantha Stephens (Liverpool, UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've loved the Super Mario Bros. games ever since I owned Super Mario and Six Golden Coins on my Gameboy Pocket, so I was really excited about buying this game once I bought my Nintendo DS. It really is fantastic! The graphics and gameplay are excellent, though the only downpoint which I've found so far is that there aren't many places to save, so if you run out of lives before you reach certain points, there could be a lot of gaming time going to waste. I'm still working my way through the game and I'm looking forward to completing it but it is certainly a case of so far, so very, very good!
