Amazon.co.uk Review Sonic the Hedgehog is a character familiar to just about everyone who knows anything about video games. Sonic Mega Collection is a compendium of seven of the hog's 16-bit outings--including the landmark original--converted for play on Nintendo's GameCube. As with all retro collections of this sort, Sonic Mega Collection caters not only for new and curious gamers but also for hardcore fans. Features such as artwork folders and commercials, for example, will appease the latter group, while the games included here will satisfy the retro longings of all. To be precise, full versions of the following are immediately playable: Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, and 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic Spinball, Sonic 3D and Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Collection. And that's just for starters; continued play unlocks other Sonic-related games, such as Flicky and Ristar. Value for money, then, isn't in question. All that remains to be debated is whether or not these titles continue to entertain in the 21st century. Generally, they do. The few duds in this collection (the overbaked Sonic 3, for instance) are far outweighed by the ever-enjoyable likes of the original Sonic the Hedgehog and Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. While Sonic's importance today is far less significant than it was, Sonic Mega Collection is a timely reminder of the excellent qualities of the series. --Johnny Cornelius

Buy Super Mario Sunshine instead March 9, 2008 Mr. Richard Rosson (London) It's basically the Sonic games from the Megadrive. I bought it for nostalgia but was actually bored to play these games again. Why get a Gamecube to play megadrive games on it. There are way better platforms to get on the GC. Super Mario Sunshine is ace!
Mega Collection - Retro Fun November 6, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Guide your memory back to the good ol' days of 2D gaming. The early 90's to be precise. You'll find some of the most popular games from that time in one tiny disc. Sure, they're all Sonic games: what else did you expect? But the legendary STH2, STH3 and S&K are on here, as well as Sonic Spinball and Sonic 3D: Flickies Island. Complete with bonus games to unlock (including the grand-daddy of all SEGA games, Flicky) and incredible extras, this is for Sonic fans old and new.

Sonic Deserves Alot More! November 18, 2004 Mr. C. M. Petrauskas 0 out of 12 found this review helpful
Sonic Mega Collection is all that it sez, classic sonic games from the megadrive which is all good and great (I remeber spending hours trying to complete evry single 1 of these games!) but there could have been so much moreThey could have polished up evryfin 4 the new generation of gamers with new levels, new charchters even movies to link it all together but still leave the option to play the classic versions. They should have included EVERY classic sonic game, even the rare ones like Sonic CD. What would have been nice as well is if they dug into there archives to let you expernice the sonic that never was, with demo levels and bosses! Maybe they could have also made a classic retro style sonic game for all the fans that have waited so long for a real squeal! Bonus games like say surival where you have to fight all the bosses in a select order and so on would have been fun also. Finally they could have included fan games from the net touched up, Sonic time Attacked any1? brillant game, and episodes from his classic tv show wud hav bin nice Im dissapointed with Sega for realsing a cheap few hours job game, sonic fans deserve much more after years of following the game, I suppose all this disk is good for is showing the new players how good sonic used to be, but Iv got a megadrive for that so whats the point? It gets the two stars for having the greatest games of all time, Sega could you please show some respect and love for the charchter that is Sonic and treat all the fans with a game which praises Sonic not rips him off!!!
