Dyson DC21 Motorhead September 23, 2008 Ms. S. Smith I recently purchased the Dyson DC21 and had read the feedback from other customers. I previously owned a Dyson and had bought a cheaper make - big mistake. Dyson is the best by far and the DC 21 is fantastic. Suction power great and the tools fit onto the machine and all fits into place on the vacuum. It is not the lightest but certainly lighter than my cheap copy. Certainly recommend the DC21 and called Dyson to register it for 5 years. Excellent customer service. Highly recommend.
Clumsy & Cumbersome July 16, 2008 Kenny_Consumer I've tried living with this machine for almost a year now and wish I hadn't. Apart from being heavy, it's very difficult to manoeuvre, hard to stow away and needs to be emptied too frequently. I find myself constantly becoming frustated with it and expect that one of the Miele's would have been a more sound buy (even with the cost of bags). I recommend that you try before you buy!
Major niggles March 25, 2008 J.Yasimoto (Essex) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Having bought the previous "Motorhead" model about 5 years ago (and being very pleased with it), I had no hesitation in buying the latest model. But within a few seconds of using it, it was apparent that little of the much vaunted Dyson engineering thinking had gone into it. Firstly, the new unit is much heavier and larger than the previous model. The motorhead unit doesn't even attempt to get under furniture. And lugging it about quickly becomes a new Olympic sport. Secondly, the motorhead on/off is located on the actual motorhead unit. This is advertised as a "feature". But coupled with the main unit on/off on the actual cylinder and you're forever walking back and forwards to turn off the damn thing. Now what was wrong with keeping both controls at the top of the rigid part of the hose? (ie. from where you are pushing the unit). Speaking of which, the 1.5m rigid hose thingy (don't know it's technical name) is now telescopic. Which is great for storage, but makes it three times as heavy when you are using it! Thirdly, the hose doesn't come out of the front of the cylinder, but slightly to the side. Which means as you pull the unit along it has a tendency to crash drunkenly into the walls and catch in doorways. Fourthly, the tiny thin attachment which I use for edges, stairs, and inaccessible areas does not fit properly. It falls out of the hose if you so much as look at it. Some tape wound round the end of it has cure the problem but even so, the much enlarged hose still makes it hard work. Fifthly, the max mark on the cylinder is now nowhere near the top. This necessitates emptying the cylinder more often. A complete house clean involved emptying the unit seven times! Now, I know this is a new cleaner and will on it's first couple of goes pick up a lot more than normal, but the fact remains the cylinder has a smaller capacity than before. I've already started to go above the max mark because I just can't be bothered to keep emptying it so often. A couple of these complaints may seem like small points. But when you add the whole lot up, they become major niggles. Reading the whole review you might think I detest this cleaner. But I don't. I still think the Dyson cylinder in conjunction with the motorhead unit is an unbeatable combination at cleaning carpets. I just wish they had put it through some kind of design/testing procedure. If you're still thinking of buying this unit, I strongly advise you to "test drive" it first.
Dyson DC21 Motorhead March 21, 2008 Ms. M. C. Morgan (Colchester, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I replaced my 6+ year old cylinder DC05 with the DC21 when four paws arrived. I thought I was reasonably strong for woman, but this cleaner is too heavy for me. Pulling out the extension head is challenging and saves you going to the gym (you have to click each section requiring strength and span). The tools are the biggest let down, not only is the quality and fit of them inferior to the DC05, but the fact that they have to slot into the heavy and bulky extension unit causes other issues. I used to be able to slot the crevice tools into my DC05 and access skirting boards behind desks and beds. The DC21 extension head is far too wide and rigid to fit into many places. In fact I have today purchased a small hand held cleaner to use in such places. The tube also seems flimsier than my old DC05, in fact a section of it melted from being too near a radiator - it wasn't touching it. I bought this cleaner mail order and really regret not sending it back. I am amazed that it got through Dyson's testing. Having previously been delighted with Dyson this purchase was a costly mistake. I think it is called Motorhead because you need to be built like Lemmy to use it.

Just received my new dyson DC21 after finding the cheapest one on Amazon ( excellent service will use again). Always had upright cleaners but took a chance with this new model which was replacing my old dyson. What a machine!! Excellent suction, much lighter to use. Couldn't believe the dog hairs it has picked up which I could not see on the carpets!! They are like new again. You won't be disappointed if you buy this model.
