It Works - every time November 21, 2008 A. L. Green (Jersey) I am a culinary dunce but I do like good bread and bought this product because I was fed up with the indifferent bread to be had in the shops. I will admit that I have only used it for making wholewheat and granary type breads and, because I live alone, only for making smaller loaves. However, if I follow the instructions carefully and press the right buttons, I get a fine tasty loaf every time. The results are excellent and the quality totally consistent. What more could I ask? Some reviewers have remarked on difficulty removing the paddle. I have found that it is easily removed with a stiff plastic spatula. So it leaves small hole? Does this make it taste the worse?
Good results so far..... November 12, 2008 S. J. Hill (Portsmouth) I received this yesterday & have already made (& eaten) 3 1lb loaves. I've found this model very easy to use, I chose this one as it was a 'Which best buy' & compact. Any advice on the paddle? The manual states that it may occassionaly get stuck...I've got a 100% record of digging it out of the bread so far....
A bitter disappointment! October 18, 2008 breadlover We purchased this bread maker from Amazon having read the which magazine review. We have previously owned 2 Panasonic bread makers. This machine was a disappointment straight out of the box. The build quality is poor, the cook tin is thin and flimsy (get what you pay for?). The bread produced was a real let down. I agree with other reviewers, the crust settings are ridiculous and tend to burn the crust. The taste is very ordinary at best. The loaves collapse frequently or burst out of the top. We actually found ourselves buying bread (how crazy is that!). I can not recommend this bread maker in any way whatsoever. However, I am most impressed with the way Amazon dealt with my complaint. I emailed them with my complaint details and they responded quickly and efficiently. The machine was collected by DHL (all I had to do was use the web links provided by Amazon)and the money has been refunded to my original credit card. To put all this in perspective I am about to do what I should have done in the first place.......buy the Panasonic SD 254. And I WILL buy this from Amazon.
Very disappointing September 19, 2008 Ivan Strahan (Co. Down, N. Ireland) This breadmaker was a disaster from day one. The crust settings do not mean what they say: 'light' means very dark, 'medium' means burnt, and 'dark' means you get a lump of charcoal. The folding paddle, meant to make extraction easier, actually makes it harder. At the lightest setting, the crust is tough. Once you get through the crust, the bread itself is OK. After a few months the loaf tin regularly came loose from its bayonet fitting during kneading. My previous two breadmakers, both Hinari, were much better. So the Morphey Richards is on its way to the dump and I am off to buy a Panasonic, which I should have done in the first place.
Any advice? September 15, 2008 Casper I've just got this, my first breadmaker, and am very pleased with the results I've had, so far. Bread texture has been very good. The recipe for Raisin Bread was also very successful, with lovely texture. There is one thing I'd like advice about, and that is the best way to remove the paddle. I find that I really have to cut it out carefully, avoiding scratching it. I've read a hint about removing it from the machine during the final rising time (lifting the dough out, spraying a little oil on the spindle, then replacing the dough), leaving a much smaller hole in the bread. I'm wondering if it would allow the machine and dough to cool too much. I'd be very interested to know if anyone has tried this and could recommend it, or offer other ideas.
