another stall in the Spiritual Sideshow December 4, 2008 Dr. R. Matthews (Spain) If you are looking for a good story then buy this book. If you want to find sincere and useful help then forget it. It's a mixture of new age beliefs - the author clearly doesn't really get what his teacher is trying to teach him and the resultant book is naive at best, misleading at worst. I read the others in the series and they get worse. I am a firm believer in that if you are teaching others you must first grasp your subject deep and wide - this author hasn't and thus the result is no real help and just another stall in the Spiritual Sideshow.
All time favorite October 21, 2008 Steven R. McEvoy (Canada) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
For many years Millman's books have been among my favorites. This is a first in a Trilogy that includes Sacred Journey of the Peaceful Warrior and The Journey of Socrates. Millman himself went though an incredible story, from injury back to Olympic athlete and from those events has created a series of books to help bring out the best in other people. Any of Millman's books are great tools for personal growth.
Spiritual Teacher September 7, 2008 C. L. Jermy (UK) This is another wonderful story by Dan Millman, it is a easy story to read yet the wisdom of the teachings from Socrates is not to be underestimated they are very gentle yet they have a very deep meaning to them which if you are open then they will bring you a greater sense of awareness, but if your not open then this book offers you the key to open the door to a new way of life.....
An Adventure of Enlightenment! April 9, 2008 Colleen Messina 24 out of 25 found this review helpful
Dan Millman's "Way of the Peaceful Warrior" is a wonderful adventure! It's a fun story, as the main character, Dan, meets an enlightened teacher, Socrates, who shares insight on living life with ease, and free from the limiting thoughts of the mind. It's an engaging story line as Dan's world shifts from the ordinary to the extraordinary. I love how Dan Millman has created a novel that teaches with enlightening wisdom. As Dan Millman's character, Socrates, shares stories and jewels of wisdom that helped Dan find new meaning in his life, I have found that Ariel and Shya Kanes' books have done the same for me. "Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment", "How To Create a Magical Relationship" and "Working on Yourself Doesn't Work: A Book About Instantaneous Transformation" are three books that teach a practical approach on how to live life in moment. It is such a revolutionary approach, instantaneous transformation - enlightenment can be experienced by all - EASILY and with consistency. If you find that you crave and search for well-being as Dan Millman's main character, the Kanes' books hold the keys that end the search.
Basic and unconvincing March 5, 2008 oblomov 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
As far as this type of book is concerned I'm fairly well read and knowledgable and in the real world I have followed this interest for over 30 years, so have a certain self taught epistemological 'expertise'. The book is poorly written, stilted and totally unconvincing. In particular the dialogue is totally unconvincing. If I had to venture a guess I would say the book is a work of fiction based within the framework of the author's real life. Perhaps if I was new to the genre I might have read the whole thing. As it is I've been unable to finish it because it doesn't move me. Even the name of the protagonist Socrates is unconvincing because the rather basic priciples espoused are mainly Eastern rather than Greek. There are far better books than this out there if this is your interest.
