5 out of 5 stars A moving, make-you-think, life-affecting work   July 6, 1999
'Grace and Grit' is the single most moving book I've ever read. If you read through all the other comments, they cover exactly what I felt, but I still had to add my own opinion. This is my first journey into the transpersonal philosophy of Ken Wilber, and I found the spirituality and philosophical aspects of the book not just fascinating, but necessary. The whole work, from Treya's letters, to her journal, to Wilber's additions, fit into one seamless whole that packed a hell of a punch.

It was not just the poignant love story, but the amazing way that Treya lived through that part of her life, and the honest way the Wilber approached it in the book.

It is a work that I will always carry with me, its message too important to ignore. And I will urge every single person I know to read it, if just to be exposed to the impact of it all.

UNBEDINGT LESEN! UNBEDINGT!

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.   November 5, 1998
As you can see from previous reviews, there is a general consensus that this is simply a wonderful book, and I'm inclined to agree. Wiber masterfully combines a running dialogue on the nature of reality, soul and spirit with an utterly heartbreaking account of pain, love and loss. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll become enlightened. Buy it. Read it. Buy it for all your friends.

4 out of 5 stars EVERY EMOTION...   August 6, 1998
It might not be pretty, but Ken Wilber does a good job of relaying all the emotions he went through as the "support person" for his wife, Treya, during her battle with cancer. Many times I didn't like Ken because I felt he was self-centered -- after all, it was TREYA that had the cancer. However, when I was finished with the book, I could view it as a whole and realize that, while the feelings Ken had were not always the most admirable, they were probably very real and probably common. Treya was a beautiful person, inside and out, and I cried so hard at the end of the book. She definitely was in control of her death and it was so beautiful the way she and Ken handled it. I hope he does indeed "find her."

5 out of 5 stars It is really, really good.   July 4, 1998
I read this book some time back, and I still love it. This book shows real life of real people in a way that can be shared by many. It's no fiction, and it's very well written. I have borrowed my book to friends, and all of them have bought this book and borrowed it further... It's good for people who use to think a bit about themselves and the world - but I guess it's not a favourate book at people who have no other aims in life than to run away from it (which is quite a common way).
