Humpty Dumpty (Lookout Mountain, Tennessee)
I believe this is the sixth in dePaola's Strega Nona series, and this time we find out about the early period in Strega Nona's life. Big Anthony only appears on the very last page, sucking his thumb in the doorway as he comes knocking for a job. Here the text reads:
"The rest is history"
and the reader who knows the rest of the series nods wisely.
We meet the false friend Strega Amelia again, and also Strega Nona's early mentor, Grandma Concetta. This is again beautifully illustrated, mostly done in reds, turquoise and mauves, set in an arcaded southern Italian town. The ills are simple yet detailed, just perfect.
Another wonderful book for the young child.
