5 out of 5 stars A valuable resource for those who work with children   December 5, 2007

After having read many of the books available from the ex-gay movement, I was delighted to receive a complimentary copy of this illustrated children's book direct from the publisher.

This is no ordinary children's book, but a valuable resource for parents whose child may be showing early signs of Gender-Identity Disorder, which if left untreated, might result in the child growing up to self-identify as gay.

The book deals sensitively with the dysfunctional family dynamics involved, as well as the effects of childhood sexual abuse, and demonstrates family-based counselling as being the ideal solution.

In spite of the sad beginning where Alfie tells us about his childhood in a simple, non-judgmental way, there is a happy ending. Family dynamics are restored to what they should have been, Alfie bonds with his father, and he later goes on to marry and have children of his own.

The fact that he has been able to explain the whole process so simply and sensitively is testimony to Richard Cohen's many years of experience as a therapist.

An excellent book, which also works as a kind of medicine. Like all medicines though, I would personally recommend keeping it out of the reach of children unless they absolutely need it.

I recommend anyone checks out the reviews on Amazon.com before considering this book.
Why wasn't 'Uncle Pete' arrested & sent to prison for the rest of his life?
