A medical doctors experience of The Presence Process October 31, 2008 Dr. M. Atkinson (UK) I work as a integrated medical doctor specialising in drug-free approaches to mental health and emotional wellbeing. Whilst initially sceptical about The Presence Process, I have now personally been through the process experientially three times and have had 20 patients of mine complete it. Whilst it it doesn't appeal to everyone, I have found The Presence Process to be one of the most profound catalysts for emotional healing and spiritual growth that I have encountered. It does however take a considerable commitment and a willingness to do the inner work of healing! At a personal level it has helped me experience greater peace of mind, a real sense of connection to my authentic self and a deeper gratitude and reverance for life. At a professional level it has helped about 50% of my patients resolve fully their health challenges (it is particularly effective as an adjunctive approach to depression, anxiety, psychosomatic illness and addictions). More than that though it can help individuals live a more conscious life in which they are more loving and accepting towards themselves and others. The Presence Process is a real gift to the world of medicine, healing and spiritual development.
Loving the process; sometimes wordy, but message is profound November 10, 2007 Sebastian Opol (Anchorage, AK USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Brown was inspired to discover what he calls Inner Presence because of suffering chronic debilitating cluster migraines for which he was told there was no known cure. He found that being totally present was the only way to stop the pain, and so he set out to become totally present, totally in this moment, and this book is the path. Living in present moment awareness is a way to "a joyful, abundant, and healthy life". The intro is long (124 pages), and a bit wordy, but he's letting the words get under your skin and it seems important to let him run the process his way and slog through it. Once you actually begin the Process proper it makes good sense. Once through the intro you read a chapter per week for 10 weeks; the chapters are short, very to the point, and very powerful. There is a daily practise for everyday of the 10 weeks, and the chapters guide you through it all. I am on week 4, and already I feel it changing who I am, and how I relate to my physical self, emotional self, and how I deal with others. It's amazing me actually. There have been moments when, following his guidance, I have felt my body physically shake as it re-experiences childhood emotions, and I have come out of it feeling wiser and better able to relate to people I care about. I've heard it said that "The Power of Now" describes a destination, while this book tells you how to get there.
