HARDER THAN EVER. November 21, 2008 Colin Hogg (Belfast, N.Ireland) I stumbled upon this band whilst attempting to find acts similar to Danzig and what a discovery i made. These guys are awesome. If you like Black Sabbath and Soundgarden you'll really love Orange Goblin. The terms "hard rock" and "heavy metal" cover a lot of rubbish frankly; so many bands have just got it wrong. These guys have got it spot on and just sound so balanced and natural and authentic. They can cater for all of your hard rock needs and in plentiful measure. Not only do they rock hard they have remained true to their genre throughout their career and have never once attempted to pander to the commercial musical mainstream (did you hear that Manson!!). Orange Goblin are an uncompromising act who perfectly blend hardcore punk, hard rock and metal to perfection and just keep getting harder, this album is testament to that. These guys will simply blow you away. The energy and aggression in their music is unrelenting and mesmerising, you cannot fail to be impressed by the sheer power and quality of their output to date. This album is no exception; its hardcore material and definitely not for the fainthearted or those who prefer a more comercially viable approach to the genre. I gave "Healing Through Fire" four stars as although its not their best effort to date, theres enough energy and raw aggression in this album to blow your socks off and keep them off over the festive period. If this is your first excursion into Goblin territory and you like what you hear, do yourself a favour and explore their back-catalogue. Theres five other albums of pure quality to be had and they are all amazing; "The Big Black" and "Coup De Grace" in particular but start at the beginning with "Frequencies of Planet Ten (1997)" and listen to how they began as a band who were heavily influenced by Black Sabbath (with some psychedelic undertones) and who progressed to becomming the true monsters of rock that they are today. Sit back and listen to how it should be done by a band who just got it so absolutely, perfectly right. If hardcore punk, metal and hard-rock (and all the sub-genres i.e. stoner rock etc.) is your bag, then these guys should be in it. I personally cannot rate this band highly enough, they are truly great. Keep it hard this christmas!!!
they dont fail June 11, 2007 sean paul mccann (ireland) Orange Goblins sixth album showcase a band that are still in the mood to demolish all around them, mixing the blues sound of previous albums along with the punkier, harsher and edgier sound of previous album 'thieving from the house of god','healing through fire'is an album that is leaner, meaner and more focused than any of their previous releases, clocking in at 43 minutes this is further proof of that suggestion. The album flies out of the speakers with opening track , 'the ballad of solomon eagle' which is anything but a ballad, fierce, edgy and catchy this is an opener that cant be ignored and through the remaining 8 tracks, one of which is a medieval sounding instrumental, there are plenty of styles that are forged but the quality always remains, the band truly sound like they are having fun and thats always a commendable thing, all in all this may not be the best album they have released,i think that award goes to 'coup de grace' maybe but the fact remains that orange goblin refuse to confirm to styles and scenes and this is a truly great hard hitting album.
...where's me loon pants... June 2, 2007 Mr. H (Embra) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Orange Goblin, eh? They seem to have been on the go for hunnerds of years but this is actually only album number five, though their first for new paymasters Sanctuary. Hmmm. So have they forgone their scuzzy stoner / biker rock for a sniff of the filthy lucre? Is it time for some trend killing emo haircuts? Don't be stupid. Ten years down the line and it's still dirty big riffs, scrappy vocals and horns in the air for Orange Goblin. Which is both their saving grace and their failing. Y'see if you like Orange Goblin, then you're going to love this album, as it is definitely one of their best. But if you're one of those strange people who've managed to remain immune to their charms over the years, then the mighty riffing of 'The Ballad Of Soloman Eagle' and 'Hot Knives And Open Sores' are unlikely to sway you. Fool. Those of us with taste, however, will dust down our loon pants and indulge in some histrionic displays of headbanging and idiot dancing not seen since the glory days of 1981.
The Future's Orange! May 29, 2007 A. Ranautta 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have always been an Orange Goblin fan since their early days but this album is amazing!! From the sleazy 'Ale House Braves' to the epic 'The Ballad of Solomon Eagle' to the AMAZING 'Vagrant Stomp', this album is top of my playlist at the moment. This is metal as it should be played!
