3 out of 5 stars Healing Power of Herbs   August 10, 2003

A very detailed book concentrating on 39 herbs. Quite a lot of chemistry involved in each chapter with full references given for further reading. Definately a book for those with a serious interest in healing with herbs. A fascinating history and folk- lore section is given for each herb. Lacks coloured illustrations but this doesn't detract from the usefulness of the handbook.

5 out of 5 stars The Best Herbal Book Available!   January 17, 2001

I have been an amateur herbalist for three years now, and I have a huge collection of books on the subject, of which, The Healing Power of Herbs is my favourite, by a long way. It is written in a very readable style, and yet also gives the scientific reasons why the herbs work (the chemicals in them etc). So far it has been unfailingly correct in the information it gives. I no longer catch infections - something I was once prone to, and I rarely get flu, or even serious colds! I would say that this book is essential to anyone who ever gets ill! A thoroughly modern and accurate approach to herbalism. I thoroughly recommend both book and author.
