4 out of 5 stars Great tool but with a bottle opener and no can opener   August 12, 2008

This is my first Leatherman and I really love it. The design is great and it feels better than the swiss army knives, however it has all the features you need except a can opener or sissors (which are not that neccessary).I rate a four star for this reason and hope that Leatherman will bring out an extra bit that goes where the screwdriver is so as to make this tool truely the travelers choice.

5 out of 5 stars A sculpture more than a serious all-rounder   July 30, 2008

This is another beautiful object from Leatherman. It isn't as functional as the Wave, so if you're looking for a full set of tools - including a serrated blade and a saw - then you might want to try that. However, it's well built, light and each of the tools works as it should.
On the plus side: the blade opens with one hand very smoothly, and flips back just as easily; it's light enough that you barely feel it in your pocket; the pliers and wire cutters are sturdy and sharp; the bottle opener is accessible without opening the tool (which I think gives a big hint as to what the manufacturers were expecting this product to be used for most of all). The Skeletool actually feels far more solid than the Wave, which is saying something.
Cons: No saw, which is handy in the garden and for out-and-about rugged stuff.
On balance, I think this is a bit of a Leatherman collectors' tool, but worth the price nonetheless.

5 out of 5 stars Great tool, lighter, but not by a huge amount   July 23, 2008

Switching to this from the leatherman wave, I was bound to know there would be some slight differences.
-One difference is that it's thinner by looks. In truth it's really only a tad shorter than the wave and has the same width, only the *bulk* from the extra tools are gone.
-The lighter and somewhat slightly weaker *in observation* frame, had a negative impact on how solid the pliers felt, where in the wave the handles pushed against my hands as I try to force the pliers past it's closing point, the skeletool's pliers design had a slight give to it, I suggest then that the skeletool's pliers would be more suited for *up to but not including* medium duty work.
-Apart from the lack of the multitudes of tools. The blade design has gone through a refreshing change. The wave's blade was flat then ending at a clip point, whereas the skeletool has an almost continuous curve up til the point, which is far more useful for cutting.
-The extra bit driver containment place looks susceptible to becoming loose, causing the extra bit to become lost, but that has yet to happen for me.

Weight wise, it is lighter than all full sized leatherman tools. But cannot be compared to pocket knives as the skeletool is much heavier. For those who are very conscious of every ounce in their pack, go for a lighter penknife.

But if you're looking for a skeletool that performs closer to the other full sized leatherman tools, then the skeletool CX may have that extra strengh given its coating and stronger blade. The CX is however, slightly heavier than this one, but generally unoticable by most.

But as the steel alternative for someone who does not require everything. This tool is great.

5 out of 5 stars Useful, practical, good price.   June 4, 2008

This is about the 5th type of product I have bought, it outshines all (swiss army, BandQ etc...)

Having owned one for 6 months, the blade is still sharp BUT you do need to oil it at least every 2 months, or like mine, it will become stiff.

You can really hack into anything - roughly 1 and a half inches max + variety of functions. In the Garden I just use this and a small saw ( which I would recommend to compliment your leatherman)
