2 out of 5 stars Not as good as it looks   October 4, 2008

When I found this bag I thought for twenty pounds I couldn't go wrong. How wrong I was.

The bag is extremely comfortable but this is outweighed by a number of factors.

Firstly; weight. This bag is pretty much lined with a thick duvet. This brings the weight to over two kilograms and it weighs more than my backpacking tent(a Eurohike Backpacker).

Secondly; Size. When unpacked you get a generous amount of space but packing the bag away is impossible. The bag does not go back into the stuff sack no matter what. You always get a bit of the bag sticking out the top and the drawstring will only close at a certain angle. Plus the pack is too fat. It's okay when you want to put in in a rucksack. You can compress it to make it even fatter, but there is no way you will manage to strap it onto a rucksack unless it has very long straps. There is no way you will be able to pack the bag away quickly in cramped conditions which is not good if you are doing something like a Duke of Edinburgh expedition.

Thirdly; inside the bag. Once you get in the bag you will instantly feel the warmth. However the zip is very dodgy. The inside zip on mine snapped off and because of the size and shape of the hole for your face; it's extremely difficult to put your arm out, zip the bag up and get your arm back in.

In a nutshell this bag is too heavy, too awkwardly shaped and too impractical for backpacking. It's comfortable though so if you're just driving up to a site and sleeping in a tent for a few nights this bag is adequate, however I recommend you get a large one of these to put it in: Exped Compression Bags
I'm just glad I didn't pay the 44 RRP for it.
