Excellent with long-lasting battery December 4, 2008 D. Finkenzeller (UK) I've had one of these for over a year now as a replacement to a corded one that was stolen in a garage burglary. I've subsequently been burgled yet again, but this time the idiots stole my Dremel battery charger (the Dremel having been left indoor after use). I've not been able to find a replacement charger, but have carried on using the Dremel and it has done really well, albeit for light use. Most recently I used it to pilot drill holes for screws into plywood and pine. The battery is getting low now, but I can honestly say it has lasted very well considering it has been used without recharge for some months. Before I had the charger stolen I used the Dremel more frequently and find it an excellent bit of kit and being cordless makes it more versatile. The battery charges quickly and the unit seems powerful for most tasks. I have used it for grinding a sharp edge on my flymo lawnmower and cutting through hard to shift nuts and bolts. It seems to manage heavy tasks as well as being suitable for more delicate work. Once I get another battery charger (I hope I don't have to buy another Dremel just to get one) then I'll be able to use mine much more again.

Dremel Li-on Cordless Multitool January 18, 2008 D. Mahatme (UK) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
Another excellent Dremel Multi-tool.Well made and ergonomically very easy to use with no cable to get in the way.Very large range of speeds available to enable matching to the material/tool.Li battery should hold charge well.Good for minature work, hobbies, craft and other jobs. Not really for heavy duty DIY as not high torque.Already used it several times.Should work better and outlast cheaper non Dremel versions.
Good, but make sure you are buying it for the right reason March 14, 2005 148 out of 148 found this review helpful
The Dremel 8000JD is a good tool. Light and easy to handle/manoeuvre, very high speed and with the usual multitude of Dremel accessories. Although it is fairly low torque, it has a highly-variable speed dial, which means you can match the tool to almost any job.Two warnings for the novice: 1) Remember that when it says '60+' accessories, you are not actually getting 60 *different* attachments. The actual count is more like 25-30 different attachments, with the rest being doubles to allow for bits wearing out. But then, that is still 25 different attachments.... 2) Think carefully if this is the correct tool for the job before you buy. If you are planning on carrying out smaller repairs on wood, metal or some plastics, you're probably on the right track. Versatility is this tool's main feature, not it's heavy duty power. While, for example, the cutting discs that come with this will enable you to cut through a piece of guttering or even a problematic nut/bolt, they wear out quite quickly. I don't want to label this a strictly 'crafts' tool, as that would be selling it well short, but don't buy it thinking that it will be able to take care of the bigger jobs.
